The Jeep Compass diesel-automatic will be offered in the mid-spec Longitude and top-spec Limited Plus variants. The top-spec Compass diesel-AT goes up to Rs. 24.99 lakhs.
Jeep has finally launched the Compass diesel-automatic in India today. As we had reported earlier, the Compass with the diesel-automatic will be available in two trim levels – Longitude and Limited Plus. The Longitude variant of the Jeep Compass with the new diesel-automatic powertrain has been launched at a price of Rs. 21.96 lakhs while the Limited Plus variant has a price of Rs. 24.99 lakhs (all prices, ex-showroom India). Bookings for the Compass diesel-automatic have been underway for the past few days and deliveries are expected to commence shortly.
The Longitude variant with the diesel-automatic powertrain is about Rs. 4 lakhs more expensive than the manual counterpart. That hike in price is because of the BS6 update, more equipment, along with the addition of a 9-speed automatic gearbox and Jeep’s four-wheel-drive system. On the other hand, the top-spec Limited Plus variant with the diesel-automatic is priced at about Rs 1.9 lakh higher than the manual version.
Until now, the diesel-automatic powertrain was only offered in the off-road biased Trailhawk variant of the Jeep Compass. With the introduction of the diesel-AT powertrain in the standard Compass, the entry point for the diesel-automatic range has come down by a whopping 4.8 lakh.
The powertrain under the hood of the Compass diesel-automatic is the same that is offered in the Trailhawk variant. The 2.0 liter turbocharged Multijet engine produces 173 bhp and 350 Nm of torque. The automatic gearbox is a 9-speed unit and both the variants come with Jeep’s All-Wheel Drive system.
In the Longitude variant of the Compass, Jeep has added some more features on the automatic variant to further create some differentiation over the manual counterpart. These features include a larger 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual-zone climate control, cruise control and reverse parking camera as well. However, in terms of safety kit, the manual and automatic Compass Longitude are identical – both get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, traction control and electronic stability control, hill-start assist, Isofix child seat mounts, rear fog lamps, a rear defogger and wiper and an electronic parking brake.

Coming to Limited Plus variant of the Compass, both the manual and the automatic variants of the SUV are identical in terms of their equipment list. Some notable features include six airbags, a dual-pane sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, Jeep’s 8.4-inch Uconnect infotainment system, automatic headlights and wipers and an 8-way power adjustable driver’s seat as standard.

The Compass does not have a direct rival in India in its size, off-road capability and price point. However, in the mid-size SUV segment it competes against the likes of the Kia Seltos, MG Hector, Tata Harrier and Hyundai Creta. It undercuts the Hyundai Tucson and Volkswagen Tiguan on the higher side.
