The MG branded Maxus D90 will go on sale around Diwali this year and its a full-size SUV that’s larger in dimensions than its rivals like the Endeavor and Fortuner in India.
We have long reported to you that MG Motors will be bringing the Maxus D90 at the 2020 Auto Expo. Now, MG Motors has dropped the first teaser of the Maxus D90, confirming that the SUV will see its India debut at the 2020 Auto Expo on February 5. This SUV is already on sale in Australian and Chinese markets under the LDV and Maxus brands, respectively. Just like MG Motors, Maxus is also a subsidiary of SAIC.
The D90 is scheduled to be launched in India by Diwali 2020. It is going to be MG’s new flagship in India which will launch with a new name for our market. The D90, when its launched in India will be full-size SUV with three rows of seating and it will rival the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, the Ford Endeavor and Mahindra Alturas G4 in India. Just like its rivals, the D90 is also built on a ladder-frame chassis. In terms of dimensions, the D90 measures 5,005mm in length, 1,932mm in width, 1,875mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,950mm. That makes the D90 even larger than all of its rivals in India. You can thus expect tons of space on the inside.
One look at this D90 and you know this SUV means business. It will come with the signature MG grille replete with lots of chrome bits. It will also have more chrome on its window line and on the doors, just like the Hector. The India-spec D90 will also get a unique alloy wheel design and interior bits to name a few other changes expected compared to model on sale elsewhere. The D90 sports a chunky design and a bold, upright stance.

If we are to go by the international-spec D90, then it comes very well kitted on the interiors. Expect MG Motor’s version of Maxus D90 to come with 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, three-zone climate control, cooled/heated seats, a panoramic sunroof and a 360-degree camera on the range topping trims. It is also equipped with safety features such as autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist and the automatic parking function. The SUV for India is expected to at least sport six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP and Isofix child-seat mounts.

In China, the Maxus D90 comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine which makes 224hp and 360Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission. However, the D90 with this engine will not generate much sales in India. MG’s parent company SAIC was working on a new 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel engine that will produce 218hp and 480Nm of peak torque. This engine is said to be developed from the FCA’s Multijet II engine. Now this is an engine that will resonate better with the Indian audience. The SUV is expected to sit above the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the Indian market.
