This spied MG MPV is sold as the Maxus G10 in China and will likely come to India by 2021 with it being positioned in between the Ertiga and Innova Crysta in India.
The Auto Expo is just a week away and MG Motors is set to have quite an exciting stand at the Expo. They will unveil the six-seater MG Hector and Maxus D90 full-size SUV. Now, we have come to know that MG Motors also has an MPV lined up for a showcase in India at the 2020 Auto Expo. The car was spotted just after it was offloaded from a shipping container at a port in Western India – bound for the Expo stands.
The MPV segment is also seeing a lot of action lately. We saw the Maruti Suzuki XL6 come out in 2019 and recently, Kia has brought in the Carnival MPV to India. In fact, Kia is going to launch the Carnival in India with its price announcement at the Auto Expo in the first week of February 2020. This MG MPV seen here in these images is the Maxus G10 which is already on sale in China and South East Asia. Its available with 7, 9 and 10 seat configurations and we believe the G10 seen here in these images is the 7-seater variant.
To give you an insight, Maxus is an UV brand under SAIC which is also the parent company of MG Motors. In India, any car that is showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo from SAIC’s extensive portfolio, it will be badged as an MG. We will see that in case of the Maxus D90 and now, with the G10 MPV as well. You can already see that from the spy images as well. MG Motors has a clear focus of actually bringing these cars to India and currently, they are evaluating each of the various cars it will be showing. MG Motors will be gauging customer interest and reactions from the showcase at the 2020 Auto Expo.
The G10 MPV is actually being strongly considered for India and if at all it makes it to our shores, it should arrive by the beginning of 2021. Although MG is evaluating all seat configurations possible for India, it will most likely be sold as a 6- or 7-seater MPV. Evaluating the seating configurations is particularly important with the Kia Carnival (which comes with 7-, 8- or 9-seater configurations) now in the mix.

It would also be interesting to see how MG Motors positions this MPV in India. Given what it is, we expect the G10 to sit in the middle of the Maruti Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crsyta. That should give it sufficient premiumness while also being able to be a good value for money product. However, its too early a stage of concretely comment on that and MG also has the 6- and 7-seater Hector coming up. But while that will play in the SUV space, the G10 would be strictly an MPV.

In China, teh G10 MPV is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine that produces 223 bhp and 345 Nm of peak torque and comes mated to a six-speed manual or a six speed automatic transmission. There is also a 2.4-litre diesel engine on offer mated to a six-speed manual transmission or 1.9-litre, turbocharged diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. While this is still some time away, MG will also have the full size Maxus D90 on display at the 2020 Auto Expo. It is expected to go on sale in India around the festive season this year.
