We have two electric SUVs now. Hyundai launched the Kona EV in India last year, priced at Rs 25.30 Lakhs. Now, MG has also unveiled the ZS EV in India and is set to launch it by the end of January. We have already driven both the electric SUVs.
Both the electric SUVs come in costly, nearly 2 times more than what their petrol versions would cost. Here, we put the MG ZS EV against the Hyundai Kona EV to compare their battery packs, their features, dimensions and charging details.

MG is going to reveal the prices of ZS EV by the end of this month. We expect the prices of ZS EV to slightly undercut that of Kona, which goes for Rs 25.30 Lakhs. Expect the ZS EV to be priced around Rs 23.5 – 24 Lakhs (ex-showroom prices).

ZS EV gets a 44.5 kWh lithium-ion battery pack in comparison to Kona’s 39.2 kWh lithium-ion battery. Both the battery packs are IP67 rated and get liquid-cooling. The ZS EV produces 143 PS and 353 Nm of peak torque. Kona produces comparatively lower power but higher torque, at 136 PS and 394 Nm. While the ZS achieves 0-100 km/hr in just 8.5 seconds, the Kona takes more time for the same at 9.7 seconds.

ZS EV is 4,314mm long, 1,809mm wide and 1620mm tall. In comparison, Kona is shorter by nearly 200mm, which is a huge difference. The width and height of Kona are also lower than the ZS EV, by 9mm and 50mm respectively. Seems like ZS EV will be more spacious than Kona. However, Kona gets batter ground clearance than ZS EV, at 170mm.
