Tata Tiago and Tigor Facelifts score 4-star Safety Rating at Global NCAP

The Tata Tiago and Tigor facelifts scored a 4-star rating in adult occupancy and a 3-star safety rating for child occupancy at the Global NCAP crash tests.

Global NCAP has been testing a series of India-made cars recently. They recently crash tested the Tata Altroz and the Mahindra XUV300, both of which scored a 5-star safety rating. Now, Global NCAP has crash tested the facelifted Tata Tiago and Tigor and the duo fared well with a 4-star rating for adult occupancy and a 3-star rating for child occupancy. The safety ratings of the Tata Tiago and Tigor facelifts were announced just a day ahead of the new models going on sale in India.

In terms of adult occupant protection, the Tiago and Tigor scored 12.52 out of a maximum 17. The body shell integrity of the car was however rated unstable and not capable of withstanding further loading. The footwell area was particularly pointed out to be weak. The protection for the front passengers’ head and neck was however rated to be ‘good’.

On the child occupancy safety front, the Tiago and Tigor facelifts scored a three-star ratiing, securing 34.15 points out of a maximum of 49. Neither the Tiago nor the Tigor come with Isofix child seat mounts or three three-point seat belts at the rear. Excessive forward movement was prevented for the forward-facing, three-year-old dummy, while protection for the 18-month-old dummy was considered good.

On the safety features front, the Tata Tiago and the Tigor facelifts get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, front seatbelt pre-tensioners and rear parking sensors as standard. Tata has been making really safe cars lately. As mentioned earlier, the Tata Altroz recently scored a 5-star safety rating from Global NCAP. A few months earlier, the Tata Nexon was became India’s first Global NCAP 5-star-rated car. Mahindra’s XUV300 also joined Global NCAP’s 5-star club yesterday, posting the highest scores on adult and child occupant protection for any made-in-India vehicle.
