Toyota Yaris CNG To Be Launched By The End Of 2020

Toyota is planning to equip the Yaris with CNG to boost up its dying sales. It could be the first sedan in its segment and also amongst the few sedans to offer CNG.

The latest entrant in the executive sedan segment, Toyota Yaris recently got a mild facelift. Seeing no boost in the sales of the sedan, Toyota has planned something that is expected to boost up the sales in no time.

Toyota Yaris CNG is reportedly under planning. Earlier, we reported that Toyota might use Maruti’s technology for developing CNG vehicles and Yaris might be the first one to get it. Yaris will continue to be sold with a petrol engine, but later, will get CNG as an option.

2018 Toyota Yaris Front Profile

Reports suggest that Toyota is planning to bring the Yaris CNG by the last few months of 2020. It is soon launching the BS-6 Yaris in India, which will continue with the same 1.5-litre petrol engine with a CVT gearbox and a 5-speed manual.

Toyota is discontinuing the Etios and Etios Liva due to the BS-6 norms. The unavailability of Etios on sale will definitely hurt Toyota. The spacious sedan was earlier a hit for private buyers and now is a hit amongst the commercial buyers. Etios is known for its huge space, a reliable diesel engine and the trust of Toyota.

Yaris is not going to get diesel engine anytime soon, so fitting it with a CNG as an option might work out. While its petrol engine produces 107 BHP and 140 Nm of peak torque, the CNG variants might see a dip in the power and torque figures.

Amongst its competitors like Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna, Honda City, Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento, Yaris is amongst the least selling models. With being one of the very few sedans to get factory-fitted CNG kits will attract buyers who are opting for petrol cars.

Similarly, we also expect the Glanza to be offered with CNG. Despite seeing a decent start, its sales have not picked up despite being more affordable than Baleno. As of now, there are no premium hatchbacks as well, that come with CNG kits.
