BS6 Bajaj Dominar 400 Price Revealed; Costs Only Rs 1,749 Over BS4 Model

The BS6 Bajaj Dominar 400 will have a price of Rs 1,91,751 which is only Rs 1,749 over the BS4 spec model (all prices, ex-showroom Mumbai). Bajaj is yet to announce the specifications officially.

Bajaj have updated their flagship motorcycle, the Dominar 400, to meet the upcoming BS6 emission norms. What’s really amazing is that the BS6 Bajaj Dominar 400 does not see much hike in its price over its BS4 counterpart. Bajaj retailed the BS4 spec Dominar 400 for a price of Rs 1,90,002, and with the BS6 update, the price has only gone up by Rs 1,749, thus effectively pushing its cost to Rs 1,91,751 (both prices ex-showroom Mumbai). That’s a rather small hike in price.

Now Bajaj has been consistently hiking the price of the Dominar 400 over the last year and that is why, with this BS6 update, the hike does not seem all that much. You could call it a smart strategy by the manufacturer to bridge the gap in price between the BS4 and BS6 models. Select dealerships across the country are also taking bookings for the BS6 Dominar 400 for a token amount ranging from Rs 1000 – Rs 5000.

In order to make it BS6 compliant, Bajaj has tweaked the engine and also given an ECU update to the motorcycle. There’s also a new cat-con to comply with BS6 emissions. However, Bajaj hasn’t introduced any cosmetic changes on the motorcycle with the BS6 update. That said, we could see some new paint schemes being introduced on the motorcycle in the coming months to up its style quotient.

Bajaj has however not disclosed the exact specifications of this BS6 engine. We do not however expect there will be any difference in the outputs and performance of the Dominar 400 with the BS6 update. The engine was also updated with a DOHC setup last year to put out more power and torque. The 373.3cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled, DOHC motor puts out 39.4bhp at 8,650rpm and 35Nm at 7,500rpm. The engine is paired to a 6-speed gearbox that also benefits from a slipper clutch.

The underpinnings of the motorcycle will also remain identical. It will continue to use the same suspension setup, which includes an upside-down fork and a monoshock at the rear. Braking setup comprises discs at both ends paired with dual-channel ABS. The Dominar 400 BS6 is expected to be launched by Feb-end or early-March 2020. It competes against the Jawa, Royal Enfield Classic 350, and the Mojo 300.
