BS6 Lexus NX SUV and ES Sedan Launched in India; Price and Details

Lexus has launched the BS6 complaint NX SUV and ES Sedan in India, the latter now being locally assembled for a more competitive price point. The NX SUV will be locally assembled very soon as well.

Lexus has launched the BS6 complaint version of the NX 300h SUV in India. The BS6 Lexus NX 300h gets a starting price of Rs. 54.90 lakhs and goes all the way up to Rs. 60.60 lakhs in India (all prices, ex-showroom). Along with the BS6 update, Lexus has also introduced an entry level variant of the NX 300h, called the Exquisite variant. Here’s a variant-wise price breakup of the BS6 NX 300h.

Variant Price (ex-showroom, India)
NX 300h Exquisite Rs 54.90 lakhs
NX 300h Luxury Rs 59.90 lakhs
NX 300h F Sport Rs 60.60 lakhs

The BS4 spec Luxury variant of the NX 300h costed Rs 58.20 lakh. That means the Luxury variant saw a hike in price by Rs. 1.70 lakhs for the BS6 upgrades. However, the prices will likely go down in the near future as Lexus plans to start local assembly of the NX 300h SUV in India. The Japanese carmaker has already begun assembly of the ES sedan at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, Karnataka, the prices for which have fallen by Rs 8.05 lakh.

The Lexus NX 300h is powered by a 2.5 liter petrol engine that produces 155 bhp. This petrol engine comes mated to an electric motor which further produces 143 bhp. The combined output of the powertrain however stands at 197 bhp. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed eCVT gearbox and power is sent to all four wheels.

The top-spec F Sport variant of the NX 300h comes pretty well kitted too. It gets features like heated front seats and steering wheel, a 360-degree camera with front and rear parking sensors, auto headlamps and wipers, wireless mobile charging, eight-way adjustable electric front seats with driver-side memory, a head-up display, steering-mounted paddleshifters, an electric tailgate and a 10.3-inch infotainment screen. Safety kit includes eight airbags, ABS with EBD, vehicle stability control and an anti-theft system.

Lexus has also launched the BS6 ES luxury sedan in India for a price of Rs. 51.90 lakhs for the entry-level Exquisite variant and Rs 56.95 lakh for the top-spec Luxury variant. The Lexus ES was previously brought in the country as a CBU but now Lexus has started local assembly of the ES sedan in India. As a result, it has helped bring down prices of the ES sedan by Rs 8.05 lakh, which was available in one variant only, and was priced at Rs 59.95 lakh.

Lexus India has set up an assembly line at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s (TKM) Bidadi plant in Karnataka. As mentioned earlier, following the ES sedan, the line will also soon begin assembly of the NX SUV to help them price it more competitively. Lexus currently sells the ES and LS sedans and the NX, RX and LX SUVs in India, all of which were earlier imported as Completely Built-up Units (CBUs). That however saw a steep import duty on all these cars, thus affecting their sales. With the intent of improving their market share in the luxury car market in India, Lexus will now be locally assembling some of its cars.

Just like the NX SUV, the Lexus ES is also a hybrid car that’s powered by a petrol-electric hybrid powertrain. It combines a 178hp, 2.5-litre petrol engine with a 120hp electric motor for a total output of 218hp. The power is sent to the front wheels via a 6-step eCVT gearbox. Just last week, Lexus also launched the LC 500h grand tourer in India for a price of Rs 1.96 crores. However, that being a niche model, it will not be locally assembled and will only come to the country as a CBU.
