The next-gen 2020 Honda City has been completely redesigned from grounds up and it features much more technology now and new powertrain options as well.
Honda Cars India have announced that they will take the wraps off the fifth-gen City sedan on March 16, 2020. According to sources, bookings are also expected to officially commence on the same day as the unveil. Honda has already teased us with the upcoming sedan and its market launch will happen sometime around April. The City is one of Honda’s best selling products in India. The 2020 Honda City already saw its global debut in Thailand late last year.
The Honda City that’s coming to India will have some India-specific changes to the interiors and features list that are different from the international model. The updates have been made to suit Indian taste and customer preferences. First up, the India-spec Honda City will be slightly different on the interiors. There will be more use of brushed aluminium and piano-black bits on its dashboard and centre console. Additionally, it will get dual-tone interiors and a lighter shade for the seats. The top-spec models are also expected to get leather upholstery.
The City that was unveiled in Thailand had two styling packages. There was the standard version and then there was a sportier RS variant which came with several blacked out bits and additional features. While there is no news of the City RS to come to India, the top-spec variant of the standard City will come with features such as a sunroof, 16-inch alloy wheels and full-LED headlamps as standard. Other new features will include a flat-bottom steering wheel, a new and bigger touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a new instrument console, Hill Start Assist and Electric Driver Seat Adjustment.

There will be country-specific changes for the City’s engine line-up too. In India, the City will be powered by BS6 compliant 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engines. What’s more interesting is that the 1.5 liter petrol engine will also come with the latest mild-hybrid tech that was unveiled recently on the new Jazz.

With this generation update, the 2020 Honda City will see some increment in its price. However, we still expect it to be quite competitive in its segment. The new Honda City will rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, the Toyota Yaris and also the Hyundai Verna which is also set to receive a very heavy update soon. Moreover, we also have 1.0 TSI variants of the Skoda Rapid and Volkswagen Vento that are inbound as well.
