Volkswagen has introduced the India-spec T-Roc SUV at the Auto Expo 2020. The bookings for the SUV have now commenced.
Commencing on its aggressive SUV strategy, Volkswagen has now unveiled the India-spec T-Roc Compact SUV. It has been displayed at the Auto Expo 2020, along with the recently unveiled Taigun and new Tiguan All-Space.
In the lineup, Volkswagen T-Roc will be positioned above the Taigun and below Tiguan, in the 20 Lakhs range. Actually, it is likely to enter the Indian market as a CBU, which will keep its prices higher than its competitor. Initially, VW is expected to get 2500 units in India. If the demand increases, it might plan to get T-Roc locally assembled and prices lowered.
Since VW has decided to discontinue diesel engines, the T-Roc will be a petrol-only SUV. It will get a 1.5 Litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine. The motor produces 150 BHP and 340 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
T-Roc measures around 4.2metres in length and is built on the globally popular MQB platform. This particular platform is flexible and will spawn many different models. Interestingly, the platform is revised to come under the latest Polo (Global-spec).
Volkswagen T-Roc will come with features such as an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Wireless charger, auto-climate control, analogue speedometer, adaptive cruise control, auto headlamps and wiper and an electric sunroof.
Safety features will include six airbags, ABS with EBD, ESP, rear parking sensors with a rear-view camera, lane assist, a blind spot monitor and Hill Assist Control. VW claims that they will focus more on the driving experience.
Volkswagen T-Roc will compete with the likes of Hyundai Tucson and Jeep Compass. With its price expectations of more than 20 Lakhs, it will indirectly compete against Mahindra XUV500, Honda CR-V and Isuzu MU-X as well.
