Triumph Tiger 900 Range is Coming to India in April 2020

The Triumph Tiger 900 has been completely redesigned from grounds up. We expect the top-spec GT Pro and Rally Pro variants of the Triumph Tiger 900 to make it to India. It is expected to cost between Rs 13-16 lakhs, ex-showroom.

Triumph has already introduced the Tiger 900 in the global markets and its coming to India very soon in April 2020. Triumph had started from scratch to design and engineer the new Tiger 900 and its a complete departure from what the Tiger 800 had been. You immediately notice the difference in how much slimmer and compact this new motorcycle is inspite of the extra displacement. Let’s look at it in a little more detail.

The new Triumph Tiger 900 is powered by a Euro-6/BS6-compliant 888cc inline-three-cylinder engine and now, it gets a new firing order of 1-3-2 as opposed to the 1-2-3 as seen on the old 800cc unit. In spite of extra displacement, the motor produces the same 95PS of power as before but now it produces 87Nm of torque which is 8Nm more than what the 800cc engine produced. Moreover, it kicks in at just 7250rpm instead of 8050rpm in the previous version.

Now the new Tiger 900 is essentially being offered in two variants – the GT and the Rally. As you might have already guessed, the GT variant is the road focused Tiger 900 whereas the Rally is the off-road focused motorcycle. In terms of underpinnings, there are some major differences between the GT and the Rally Pro range. On the GT bikes, Marzocchi suspension units are employed whereas the Rally versions get Showa suspension units.

Braking hardware consists of Brembo Stylema calipers, which debuted on the Ducati Panigale V4. There are major upgrades to the motorcycle in the electronics department as well. It gets an IMU-based ABS system. It gets cornering ABS co-developed with Continental. There are six rider modes to choose from: Rain, Road, Sport, Rider, Off-Road and Off-Road Pro; and a bi-directional quick-shifter.

The new Triumph Tiger 900 is a much more capable machine than it has ever been. Its more usable off-road and the new engine is a lot smoother than the older 800cc unit. The biggest differences in terms of riding has to be how much slimmer and compact this bike feels when compared to the old one. The styling is also much sleeker and it genuinely looks like an attractive motorcycle now. We don’t yet know which variants it will launch first, but we expect the top-spec GT Pro and Rally Pro variants and the mid-spec Rally variant. We believe the new Tiger 900 range could be priced between Rs 13 lakh and Rs 16 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
