Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace will be launched in India on March 6

The Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace will replace the standard Tiguan in India and this is the first SUV from VW that kick starts their SUV offensive strategy with ‘India 2.0 Project’.

Volkswagen had made it pretty evident about the SUV offensive strategy at the 2020 Auto Expo with their ‘India 2.0 Project’. We saw the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace, the T-Roc and also the Taigun, all in flesh and we were quite impressed. Amongst these, the first one to arrive will be the Volkswagen Tiguan AllSpace. The company has now announced the launch date of the same to be on March 6th. The AllSpace is essentially the long wheelbase version of the standard Tiguan and comes with three rows of seating. Volkswagen has also commenced bookings for the Tiguan AllSpace in India.

In terms of the styling, the AllSpace looks pretty much similar to the standard Tiguan. The face gets looks identical with a slatted chrome grille and revised LED headlamps. It is when you view it in profile, that the Allspace’s longer length and the longer rear overhang becomes evident. At the rear, it comes with split-LED tail lamps and dual exhaust outlets.

In terms of dimensions, the Tiguan AllSpace measures 4701mm in length, 1839mm in width, 1674mm in height and has a 2787mm long wheelbase. While the length and wheelbase has obviously gone up, the car remains the same in width but its height has also up by 2mm. With the third row of seats in position, the boot space is reduced to 230 liters as opposed to 615 liters in the standard Tiguan. However, fold the seats down and you have a massive 700 liters of boot space.

The Tiguan AllSpace will also be using a different engine from the Tiguan. The Tiguan was powered by a 2.0L, four cylinder diesel engine with 143 bhp. Now, for 2020, Volkswagen has completely ditched diesel engines and the Tiguan AllSpace will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol that produces 190 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed DCT gearbox as standard and power will be sent to all four wheels via VW’s 4Motion system.

Inside the cabin, the dashboard layout is exactly similar to the standard Tiguan. Standard safety kit will include seven airbags, ABS, ESP, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a rear parking camera.

The Volkswagen Tigaun AllSpace will come to India as a CBU, just like the T-Roc. With its launch slated for March 6, it will be quite expensive on account of being a CBU. The current 5-seat Tiguan was on sale in India for Rs 28.15-31.54 lakh (ex-showroom, India). Expect the Tiguan AllSpace to cost in the region of Rs 35-40 lakh, which will see it rival the Skoda Kodiaq and Honda CR-V.
