Hyundai is going to launch the 2020 Verna facelift in India this month. It will get a significant styling makeover, a couple of new features and three new BS6 compliant engines. The bookings for that have already commenced for a token of Rs 25,000.
In this segment, there is another popular sedan which will also get a major update. Honda was supposed to unveil the new generation City this month but has postponed it due to the Corona Virus. Like Verna, the new City will also get a comprehensive design change, new features and BS6 compliant engines. The unofficial bookings for that have also commenced.
Here, we put the 2020 Hyundai Verna against the 2020 Honda City to check which one seems like a better offering.

The current Verna is priced at Rs 8.18 Lakhs going up to Rs 14.07 Lakhs. The new sedan is expected to demand Rs 30,000 – 40,000 price hike. It could be priced from around Rs 8.5 Lakhs up to Rs 15 Lakhs. There are chances that the top-end variant could cost the 15 Lakh mark.
Honda City, on the other hand, starts off at Rs 9.91 Lakhs up to Rs 14.31 Lakhs. The base variants of all Honda cars are costlier than their rivals. However, these prices include that of BS6 petrol. So, we are expecting the price range to now start at Rs 10 Lakhs going up to Rs 16 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom).

Reports suggest that Verna is going to be launched on 26th March, however, there is no surety because of the coronavirus. We were going to see a glimpse of the new City on 17th March. Now, the unveil and launch reportedly has been shifted to April.

The new Verna will get a 1.5 Litre petrol engine, ditching its earlier 1.6 Litre motor. The new engine produces 115 PS and 143 Nm of torque. It will also come with a 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, that puts out 120 PS and 172 Nm of peak torque. That makes it the most powerful sedan in the segment.
City will continue with its 1.5 Litre iVTEC engine, that now produces 119 PS and 145 Nm of peak torque. There are chances of it getting a mild-hybrid system with this engine.

Verna will get a new 1.5 Litre diesel engine, which produces 115 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. The City gets the same capacity 1.5 Litre iDTEC engine but produces 15 PS and 50 Nm lower. These are still the speculated figures and there could be a possible power bump in the BS6 diesel.

City Petrol will continue with the same 5-speed MT and CVT options. The diesel engine will finally get a CVT gearbox along with a 6-speed manual gearbox.

Verna retains its dimensions, being 4.41 metre long, 1.72 metres wide and 1.46 metre tall. The wheelbase remains the same at 2600mm and the boot space offered will be 480 litres. In the case with the new City, it gets a generation upgrade with revised dimensions. The City is 4.55 metres long, 1.75 metres wide and 1.49 metres tall. It is slightly bigger than the outgoing version and Verna as well. This could mean that the new City will be more spacious than its rivals.
