Corona Virus Delays The Global Debut Of 2020 Hyundai i20!

The global debut of the 2020 Hyundai i20 was supposed to happen at the Geneva Motor Show but has been delayed, without any clear date.

Hyundai was going to unveil the 2020 i20 on the 3rd March, at Geneva Motor Show. It was the global debut and we, in India, are supposed to get it by the month of June. However, due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Geneva Motor Show stands cancelled.

Also, the workers in the Hyundai South-Korean plant have been affected with coronavirus. 300 workers of the paint department in the second factory of Ulsan facility have been affected. Hyundai has shut down the complete plant until any further notice.

New 2020 Hyundai i20

As of now, there are no details of when will the global debut of 2020 Hyundai i20 happen. Also, the global launch of i20 will happen a bit later than expected. The i20 that we have is completely manufactured in India, so there are chances of it coming on time.

Recently, Hyundai released a teaser video of the new i20 along with official interior shots. The shape or silhouette remains identical to the current i20, but there are completely new styling bits like new alloys, the big Hyundai cascading grille, LED headlamps and sharper front and rear bumpers.

Under the hood, you have two new engines on offer. It will continue with its existing 1.2 Litre four-cylinder petrol engine, producing 83 BHP and 113 Nm. Instead of the discontinued 1.4 Litre diesel engine, the i20 will get Seltos’s 1.5 Litre diesel motor. In a detuned state, the i20 will produce around 99 BHP and 220 Nm.

The last engine will be the latest 1.0 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine. On the i20, it will produce 100 BHP and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options could include a 5-speed MT for petrol engines, a 6-speed MT for diesel engines and a 7-speed DCT for turbo petrol.

New features onboard will include a wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, cruise control, fully digital instrument cluster, automatic headlamps, LED projector headlamps and bigger touchscreen infotainment system with Blue Link technology.

As of now, Hyundai is selling the BS6 compliant i20 petrol variants. The new diesel engine will directly come on the next generation hatch. Its prices are expected to commence at Rs 6 Lakhs going all the way up to Rs 10 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Rivals will include the Polo 1.0 Litre, Tata Altroz, Maruti Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.
