While we patiently wait for the Jimny to arrive in India, feast your eyes on a Maruti Suzuki Jimny modified to look like a Mercedes-AMG G63. And its rather well done!
Maruti Suzuki debuted the Jimny at the 2020 Auto Expo and its one SUV we are very patiently anticipating. The Jimny will essentially be a replacement for the Gypsy in India and it is a more potent off-roader than the Gpysy has ever been. The current-forth generation Jimny saw its world debut in 2018 and we expect it to be launched in India by sometime next year.
While we patiently await the Jimny to arrive here, countries that already have the Jimny are doing crazy things with it. Take a look at this example pictured above. This particular Jimny from Japan, dubbed as AEROOVER G 62, has been made to look like a 3-door version of the Mercedes-AMG G63. And we must say that the modifiers have done a rather good job at that.
What has really helped this little Jimny to mimic its spiritual hero so well is its overall stance. The upright stance of the Jimny naturally resembles the bigger G-Wagon. And then the modifiers have done a great job with the bumpers, the side-step, black beading that runs across either side, rear taillamp assembly, spare wheel cover design. They have not even spared the side mounted exhaust pipe like in the G 63 AMG. However, the Suzuki badge against a seemingly panamericana grille is a neat touch there. We’re glad the modifiers did not choose to put a three-pointed star there.

The Suzuki Jimny is a very capable off-roader. Its compact dimensions, old-school ladder frame chassis with 3-link axle and coil spring suspension, and part-time 4WD with low-range transfer gear will take you places you wouldn’t have imagined reaching in a car. Although the 18-inch low-profile wheels in this case might not be ideal for off-roading. We understand that this might not be received well by all Jimny or G 63 fans as its trying to be what its not. Still, the AEROOVER G 62 is a commendable effort.

The Jimny sold abroad is powered by the familiar 1.5-litre K15b petrol engine. The motor puts out 102PS of power and 130Nm of peak torque through a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic. It comes fairly well equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital driver information display, cruise control, automatic climate control, and six airbags. Its expected to be launched in India at a sub-10 lakh price-point, the only other direct rival for the Maruti Suzuki Jimny in India would be the 2020 Mahindra Thar.
