With just a few days left for the BS6 deadline, Mahindra has finally launched the BS6 Bolero in India and it gets some rather heavy updates. The BS6 Mahindra Bolero now has a starting price of Rs 7.98 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). In fact, the base price of the BS6 Bolero remains identical to the BS4 spec model.

Mahindra has also revised the variants of the BS6 Bolero which is now available in three variants – base spec B4, mid-spec B6 and top-spec B6(O). The B6 variant is available for a price of Rs 8.64 lakh, while the top-spec B6(O) is now available for Rs 8.99lakh. However, Mahindra is expected to further increase the price of the BS6 Bolero up to Rs 70,000 in the coming months.

The SUV gets major styling tweaks on the front with an all-new grille, new headlamps, new bumpers and a slightly tweaked bonnet as well. The new SUV looks quite a bit more premium than before. The headlamps on the new Bolero also feature black inserts and chrome bits but this update is more than just a cosmetic makeover. The Mahindra Bolero now also complies with the latest crash-test norms that were introduced late last year.

Additionally, the BS6 Bolero also complies with upcoming pedestrian safety norms that’ll be implemented in October. The updated Bolero becomes the first vehicle sold in India with metal bumpers to clear the upcoming pedestrian norms. While most features on the new Bolero remain identical to the BS4 spec model, higher variants now get static bending headlamps as standard.

The BS6 Mahindra Bolero is powered by a 1.5-litre three cylinder diesel D75 engine that delivers 75 bhp and comes mated to a 5-speed manual geabox. There’s no four-wheel drive variant on offer though. Mahindra introduced the Bolero in India way back in the year 2000 and it has been a strong seller for the brand for about two decades now. In the period between April 2019 and January 2020, the company sold a total of 52,828 units of the Bolero – which works out to a monthly average of 5,289 units.

Although most Mahindra dealerships have started receiving stocks of the BS6 Bolero, it remains to be seen as to when the deliveries commence due to the ongoing Coronavirus scare and lockdown. Mahindra is also keeping marketing of the BS6 Bolero as low as possible and will resume once the crisis has been over come. In the days to come, Mahindra will also announce the prices of the BS6 XUV500 and the Scorpio. The next-generation Mahindra Thar is also on the cards for June this year.
