Volkswagen has now launched the T-Roc SUV in India. It comes in a single variant and is sold in India through the CBU route. That means it is a fully imported SUV and VW can only import 2,500 units of T-Roc for this year. That also means that there will be no waiting period.
In this price range, T-Roc will compete with many SUVs like MG Hector, Mahindra XUV500, Tata Harrier and Jeep Compass. However, since T-Roc is a petrol-only SUV, its actual rivals are Hector and Compass. So, here we have put it against Compass Petrol.

Volkswagen T-Roc comes in a single variant priced at Rs 19.99 Lakhs. Compass Petrol goes from Rs 16.49 Lakhs up to Rs 21.92 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom). Compass comes in three variants – Sport Plus, Limited and Limited Plus.

T-Roc gets a 1.5 Litre turbo-petrol TSI engine, which produces 150 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. On the other hand, Compass gets slightly smaller but more powerful engine. It produces 163 PS and 250 Nm of peak torque. An advantage with Compass is that it also gets an optional diesel engine which is a 170 PS producing 2.0 Litre turbo-diesel engine. Also, the diesel engine comes with 4X4 configuration.

T-Roc gets a 50 litre fuel tank capacity, which is straight 10 litres smaller than Compass. T-Roc will deliver an expected 15 kmpl, whereas Compass claims to offer 14 kmpl. The riding range of T-Roc will be between 500 – 600 kms. Compass will offer much higher riding range. Also, when we compare the top-speed of both, T-Roc emerges as a clear winner.
