BS6 BMW G 310 Twins Could Be Cheaper Than KTM 390 Twins

BMW is expected to introduce BS6 versions of the G 310 R and G 310 GS around September this year with a massive price cut that could make them cheaper than the KTM 390s.

BMW’s entry level motorcycles for India – the G 310 R and the G 310 GS – haven’t yet received their BS6 update but now we have come to know that the BS6 complaint versions of the duo are expected to be launched by August-end or early-September 2020. But the more interesting news is that instead of a price hike for BS6 compliance, the BMW G 310 R and the G 310 GS may instead be available with a massive price cut.

According to a report by Zigwheels, the Bavarian Twins may be available with a massive discount of around Rs 75,000. The BS4-spec model of the BMW G 310 R retailed for a price of Rs 2.99 lakh while the G 310 GS was available for Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom). If the 310 duos actually receive the said price cut, you could be seeing a price close to Rs 2.4 lakh for the 310 R and around Rs 2.9 lakh for the 310 GS.

Now that is great value for money for a premium naked roadster or an adventure tourer with a BMW badge. In fact, with such a price tag, the BMW twins will be much closely matched with the KTM Duke 390 and 390 Adventure in terms of price, these motorcycles being their arch rival in the segment. Yes, the KTMs have the displacement and power advantage but Indian buyers will be more than happy to settle for a BMW badge.

You must already be knowing that BMW shares the engine of the G 310 R and the G 310 GS with the TVS Apache RR 310. In fact, the engine was co-developed by both brands. TVS has already updated the engine to BS6 compliance with the Apache RR 310 and has actually improved it by reducing vibrations to a great extent which was a major problem of the BS4-spec Apache RR 310. If the same effect is carried out on the Beamers, it would make hell of a difference on these twins as well.

We expect the 312cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine will continue to put out the same power and torque as before — 34PS of power and 28Nm of torque. The engine will continue to be mated to a 6-speed transmission. In fact, BMW could also introduce a slipper clutch as standard with the BS6 update. Both the motorcycles will remain unchanged in terms of mechanical hardware – an upside-down fork, a monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends paired with dual-channel ABS.

If you had missed your chance on the massive discounts BMW was offering with the BS4-spec models of the G 310 R and the G 310 GS, then the upcoming BS6 models might be throwing that chance back at you again.
