Honda has discontinued the diesel variants of the Civic and CR-V and completely pulled the plug on the BR-V due to low sales as they enter the BS6 era.
The BS6 emission norms have kicked in and with that, Honda has brought about several changes in their lineup in India. Honda has discontinued the diesel variants of the Civic and the CR-V and has also completely discontinued the BR-V MPV in the BS6 era. In place of the BR-V, Honda will come out with the HR-V later this year but that’s not going to be a 7-seater MPV. It will be more of a mid-size SUV meant to go against the Creta and Seltos.
As for the Civic, the sedan loses its 6-speed manual transmission with the loss of the diesel engine. The petrol engine is only available with a CVT gearbox and that’s not the best unit in the market. The BS6 Honda Civic will now be available in three petrol variants – V, VX and ZX – prices of which start from Rs 17.94 lakh and goes up to Rs 21.25 for the top-end variant.
The diesel engine in question here was a 1.6-litre 4-cylinder turbocharged unit producing 120PS and 300Nm and it was offered on both the models alike. The BS6 Honda CR-V is how powered by a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated unit producing 154PS and 189Nm. The engine comes mated to a CVT gearbox. The BS6 Honda Civic is now only powered by a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated engine putting out 141PS and 174Nm.

Lastly, coming to the Honda BR-V, the seven-seater MPV was launched in May 2016 and it was originally based on the Honda Mobilio. The Mobilio was discontinued back in 2017 due to poor sales but the BR-V soldiered on. It was available within a price range of Rs 9.53 lakh to Rs 13.83 lakh (ex-showroom) and came in four variant trims. The BR-V however never found many takers in the Indian market and although it was very practical with seven-seats and lots of space on the inside, it always lagged in terms of features against its rivals. With the BS6 norms kicking in, it was the right opportunity for Honda to pull the plug on the model.

Honda’s trimmed line-up in the Indian market now comprises the CR-V, Civic, Amaze, WR-V, Jazz and City. There’s a brand new City coming up in a few months and the WR-V with its afcelift is also due a launch post the lockdown. Pre-bookings for the WR-V are already being accepted for a token amount of Rs 21,000.
