How To Do J-Turns And Drifting In A Front Wheel Drive (FWD) Car? – Video

We all know a right-wheel drive car (RWD) is the best one suited for stunts. To do J-Turns and Drifting on a Front Wheel Drive car, here are the tips.

Stunts on a car is what a lot of automobile enthusiasts want on try. In countries like USA and other European countries, most of the cars are either RWD or AWD, the former being the best suited for drifting and other stunt activities.

In India, we have very few RWD cars and those are also very costly. Most of us are living with a simple FWD car which cannot do some of these stunts. Like, you can’t do a Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift types with a FWD car. However, there is a technique to do something like that.

You can actually do short handbrake drifting and J-Turns with a FWD car. Here are two explanatory videos that will help you in drifting and doing J-Turns with your FWD. However, be safe and do not try these stunts if you are not confident. There are high risks of you losing the control of the car during these stunts.

As you can see here, the Youtuber is driving an FWD car and is showing how to do drifting. In drifting, you need the rear wheel to be in motion which is not possible in an FWD car. So in such case, you naturally have to keep the front tyres in motion which is quite difficult.

The drifter explains that first, you take a considerable speed, pull the handbrake hard and turn as road goes. Then, once you are in movement, counter steer the car so if completes the movement. Like in the first drifting scene, there is a left turn. So, the drifter first turns the wheel to the left and then to the right, to countersteer.

Once you get the perfect drifting angle, press the accelerator and let it do its job. If you are on a muddy surface, you need not even pull the handbrake. Just turn the wheel to the extreme and the car will start doing it. Now, let’s talk about J-Turns!

Here is the Hyundai Veloster N, the uber-cool hot hatch. A J-turn is basically pulling the car in reverse gear at a high speed and then, turning it straight without stopping. That’s a comparatively tougher one to do and plus, you don’t have to use your handbrake.

The guy in the video shows that you take up to 25 MPH (40 km/hr) in reverse gear. Then, you swerve or flick the steering wheel, quickly shift the gear to first and Voila! This might take a lot of times to get it right. Remember, no brakes or handbrakes but the gear shifting speed matters.

I am urging the readers again to stay safe and do not try these stunts alone. If possible, do it under experienced supervision. Also, all these things to do when lockdown is over. 🙂
