Hyundai Dispatches 6,703 Units of Creta in March Despite Lockdown

The Hyundai Creta was launched on March 18 and in just 5 days before the nation-wide lockdown was imposed, Hyundai has already dispatched 6,703 units of the Creta to dealerships.

Hyundai launched the second-gen Creta in India on March 18, 2020 and as it turns out, it was not the best time for the new Creta to arrive. The Coronavirus pandemic was on the rise and the government had to impose a nation-wide lockdown of 21-days, just 5 days after the Creta was launched. However, in just those five days, Hyundai had already managed to dispatch 6,703 units of the new Creta to dealerships.

However, with the lockdown in place and manufacturers having to close factories, buyers making fresh bookings might have a considerable amount of waiting period before the car is delivered to them. Just at the time of launch, the company had already received over 14,000 bookings and had said the waiting period could go up 8 weeks for some of the variants.

Hyundai hopes to earn back the top spot in the mid-size SUV segment with the new Creta and for that, the Creta has to out do its own sibling, the Kia Seltos. In just five days of operation after the launch, Hyundai managed to dispatch 6,703 unit to dealers, which in comparison to Kia Seltos’ sales of 7,466 units in March, is pretty commendable indeed. Had operations not halted due to the lockdown, we might have seen a different picture. However, the true picture of this competition will only emerge when order is restored in the Indian automotive space.

At the end of the lockdown period, Hyundai is looking to ship over 10,000 units each month to dealers throughout the country, which will cater to the demand in the market. Hyundai in particular and the auto industry in general does not expect for a much better case in April as the lockdown has already taken up half the month and might even be extended further. Even if it does not, the market will certainly take some time to recover from the economic impact it has taken due to the lockdown.

As for the engine options, the Creta gets a 1.5 Litre diesel engine producing 115 BHP/250 Nm, a 1.5 Litre petrol engine producing 115 BHP/143 Nm. There’s also a 1.4 Litre turbo-petrol producing 143 BHP/240 Nm. All the engines are BS6 compliant as of now. As for its features, there are many new goodies added like digital cluster, electric adjustment for driver seat, electric parking brake, rear disc brake and reclining back seat. In comparison to the current most feature-rich SUV in the class, Kia Seltos, there are a couple of more features.
