Hyundai Silently Launches BS6 Santro Amidst Lockdown – Price and Details

Hyundai has officially launched the BS6 compliant Santro, continuing to be offered in both petrol and petrol-CNG derivatives with an average price hike of about Rs 27,000.

Hyundai has silently launched the BS6 compliant Santro in India amidst this lockdown. The BS6 Hyundai Santro now has a starting price of Rs 4.57 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and is available in either petrol or petrol-CNG derivatives. Hyundai launched the Santro towards the end of 2018 for a starting price of Rs 3.89 lakh but later increased prices by Rs 25,000 on the base trim and also discontinued the entry-level D-Lite and Era variants.

As we see, Hyundai has finally introduced the AMT gearbox option on the Asta variant of the Santro, which now comes for Rs 6.25 Lakhs (ex-showroom). It was previously only offered on the Magna and Sportz variants with the BS4 model. With the BS6 update, prices have gone up by an average of Rs 27,000, depending on the variant. The price is actually a bit steep because, at Rs 6 lakh mark, you can also buy the BS6 Grand i10 which continues to be sold alongside the Grand i10 Nios.

BS-6 Hyundai Santro continues with the same power figures on its 1.1 Litre petrol engine. The motor is capable of producing 69 BHP and 99 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT. As for the CNG variants, they also come powered by the same 1.1L engine but with CNG, the engine produces 58 bhp and 84Nm of peak torque. The CNG variants are only offered with a 5-speed manual gearbox.

The Santro is one of the best equipped hatchbacks in its segment. It either comes with a dual-tone beige and black color scheme on the inside or an all black interior with Diana green color inserts. In terms of features it packs in a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, rear AC vents, standard driver-side airbag, rear parking sensor, ABS with EBD, seat-belt reminder, speed alert system and more.

The Hyundai Santro competes with the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and the Tata Tiago, both of which have already been updated to BS6 norms. The Tata Tiago even received a facelift with its BS6 update. The BS6 Maruti Suzuki WagonR is priced between Rs 4.51-6.00 lakh while the BS6 Tata Tiago is priced between Rs 4.6-6.60 lakh, all prices ex-showroom.
