Skoda Sells Out All 200 Units of the Octavia RS 245 in India!

If you had been wanting to get your hands on a Skoda Octavia RS 245 in India, your last chance could be with a few leftover units at select dealerships from orders that were withdrawn.

Just as was expected, the 2020 Skoda Octavia RS 245 would sell out like hot cakes, and indeed the same has happened. All 200 units of the Octavia RS 245 that were allotted for India have been taken and Skoda has now closed the order books. Skoda had opened bookings for the Octavia RS 245 on March 1, 2020 and it was on first come first serve basis. If you had been wanting to get your hands on one, there’s still some hope left. With a few orders being withdrawn since the original allocation, a few units are still available with select dealers across the country.

Skoda launched the 2020 Octavia RS 245 at the Auto Expo this year for a price of Rs 35.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and that was a full Rs 10 lakh more expensive than the Octavia RS from 2017. The RS 245 is is loved by enthusiasts and critics alike and it was always meant to be a sell out product. Zac Hollis, Director of Sales and Marketing, Skoda Auto India, said that the response to the car has been ‘fantastic’. In an interview with Autocar India, Hollis said. “I am really looking forward to delivering the car, and I am hoping that when this whole lockdown finishes I can even hand over some of the cars to the customers myself,”

Deliveries for the Skoda Octavia RS 245 will commence as soon as the lockdown ends. Deliveries were originally scheduled in early April but the coronavirus crisis delayed the process like many other things. In fact, the RS 245 is actually the last batch of Octavias of the current-gen model that will be sold in India. What a fitting end to a really credible vehicle in the executive sedan segment. Skoda has discontinued the current-gen model in India post the BS6 norms and the next-gen model will only arrive in India by early 2021.

The Skoda Octavia RS 245 is powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, which now puts out 245hp and 370Nm of torque (15hp and 20Nm more than before). The engine comes paired to a 7-speed DSG gearbox and the car can sprint from 0-100 kph in just 6.6 seconds. The previous car did it in 6.8 seconds. The top-speed remains identical at 250 kph. The car has lesser ground clearance than the previous car and it still prioritizes its sporty driving dynamics over anything else.

The new car also gets an updated suspension setup and there are visual differences in the form of larger 18-inch Vega alloy wheels and a body kit which gives the RS 245 a distinctive sporty character. There are also some blacked-out elements on the exteriors, LED headlights, tail-lamps, fog lamps and daytime running lights (DRLs), steel exhaust tips and a boot spoiler. On the inside, it features Alcantara sports seats, a flat-bottom steering wheel, Skoda’s Virtual Cockpit system and nine airbags.
