Tata-JTP Shut Down – Will It Be Relaunched In Future?

Tata-JTP partnership has been shut down this month. However, Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP might see some upgrades in the future, if something works out.

Now, we can confirm that the Tata-JTP partnership has been shut. Tata Motors has issued an official statement regarding the partnership. Those who have bought the JTP cars will get proper service assistance from the manufacturer.

From the statement issued to Team-BHP, we are getting confused signals. Seems like the shutdown is temporary and both are reviewing their partnership again. Chances are Tata might upgrade Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP with BS6 engines and necessary safety features. Also, if things work out in future, both might come again for more JTP cars.

Tata Motors, in collaboration with Tamil-Nadu based Jayem Auto, launched the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP. Both the performance-focused cars received a big upgrade in terms of the engine, suspension and the handling.

Packed with the 1.2 Litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol motor, the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP produce 115 BHP and 150 Nm of peak torque. The engines get revised engine tuning and the 5-speed gearbox also undergoes treatment for quicker shifts.

Tata has upgraded most of its cars with BS6 engines excluding the Harrier, Hexa and JTP Twin. We know that Harrier BS6 is coming by next month and Hexa will not get the BS6 upgrade anytime soon. Only unknown information is about the JTP Twins.

Tata JTP twins were only available in 15 cities for sale. While the Tiago JTP is priced at Rs 6.39 Lakhs, the Tigor JTP goes for Rs 7.49 Lakhs (ex-showroom prices). They are based on the top-spec trims of regular Tiago and Tigor with the same features list.

Tiago JTP is the most affordable performance-oriented hatchback in India, competing with the likes of now discontinued Maruti Baleno RS and the Volkswagen Polo GT TSI. Now with the Hyundai Aura equipped with the 1.0 Litre turbo-petrol unit, it competes with Tigor JTP.
