The Hyundai Prophecy EV which was supposed to debut at 2020 Geneva Motor Show looks remarkably similar to a Porsche 911 and is steered with two joysticks.
With nothing major happening in the automotive world due to coronavirus, we decided to take a look back at a rather amazing concept from Hyundai that was supposed to be showcased at the 2020 Geneva Motor Show. Well, we says ‘supposed’ because again, the 2020 Geneva Motor Show did not take place due to coronavirus. Coming back to the concept, the Hyundai Prophecy EV has very simplistic design, harking back to concept cars of the past.
Its called the prophecy EV and as its name would suggest, if definitely previews design elements of future vehicles and also some elements that could make it to future production Hyundai cars. Even though its futuristic, the simple design language of the Prophecy EV takes us back to simpler times and the concept has a striking resemblance with a Porsche 911. Perhaps a four door Porsche 911 could largely look like this.
Although the Geneva Motor Show was called off, to the delight of enthusiasts, Hyundai showcased the Prophecy EV on a virtual platform in early March. The concept has been designed by Hyundai’s new design philosophy which is called ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ and the literal description of the words can really be seen on the car. The curved front fenders with a slopping bonnet, the muscular rear haunches and sloping roofline with a subtle spoiler – all remind us of the 911.
The propeller-shaped wheels add some sharp contrast to the smooth flowing curved surfaces on the car. The pixel lights at the front and rear add just the right amount of funk to the car and you are good to go. The story is however quite different as you step inside. The cabin is as futuristic as it can get with the entire width of the dashboard being layered with digital screens.

The cabin design has minimalistic approach and yet is very luxurious. It features autonomous driving technology and a bunch of other fancy gizmos as well. But the coolest thing about the interiors of the Prophecy EV has to be the lack of a steering wheel. So how to steer the car, you ask? Well, buy two joysticks. Remember the 1992 Saab 9000 drive-by-wire concept nicknamed the Prometheus? If that was already crazy, this should be more so. Hyundai claims that this is more driver-focused and improves ergonomics.

If Hyundai makes a production version of the Prophecy EV, it will rival the likes of the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S and the upcoming Jaguar XJ EV. But for now, its just a concept with lots of gadgetry and here we say it again, a simply gorgeous design. It is not likely to make into production anytime soon but the overwhelming emotion brought on by this concept is more than satisfactory.
