When Jeep launches the Compass facelift in late-2020, it will debut the latest UConnect 5 infotainment system with likely a 12.3-inch touchscreen, the largest in the segment.
Jeep India is all set to revamp their product portfolio in India and its going to start with the Compass facelift. Following that, there will be a seven-seater SUV based on the Compass platform and even a new sub-4m SUV that will then be the cheapest offering from the brand in India. But lets come back to the Compass facelift as its going to be particularly important for the brand. It is after all the car that got Jeep going in India.
Jeep has been updating the Compass mechanically over the years with the most recent one being a new automatic-gearbox option with the BS6 diesel versions of the Compass. The SUV has however not received any cosmetic updates from the time it was introduced back in 2017. Well, with the facelift, that’s exactly what’s about to change. The new Jeep Compass facelift will boast of significant sheet metal changes with a completely new face.
The biggest talking point will however be on the inside with a complete redesigned dashboard and a new infotainment system with a much larger touchscreen. It has been dubbed the UConnect 5 and FCA debuted this latest infotainment system at last year’s Consumer Electronic Show with multiple screen-size options going up to a massive 12.3-inch portrait-style setup. The new system will come with integrated Amazon Alexa support, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and can also receive over the air updates.

As of yet, there’s no official confirmation of the size of the screen but according to sources, it may come with the 12.3-inch setup. And that is what would essentially necessitate a heavily reworked dashboard design to accommodate the larger screen. Touchscreen infotainment systems are becoming an increasingly important phenomenon amongst buyers these days and all mid-size SUVs including the Creta, Seltos and Hector have difital screens larger than 10-inches. The largest is on the MG Hector with a 10.4-inch unit.

If Jeep offers the 12.3-inch infotainment screen on the Compass facelift, it will have the largest screen in the segment and that could be huge selling point for the SUV. The facelifted Compass will however carry on with its current engines which includes the BS6-compliant 163hp, 1.4-litre turbo-petrol and 173hp, 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engines. The Compass facelift is expected to launch by late 2020 and it will rival the likes of the MG Hector, Kia Seltos, new Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen T-Roc and the upcoming Skoda Karoq.
