Hyundai officially launched the 2020 Verna Facelift in India a couple of days ago. We had however revealed the prices of the 2020 Hyundai Verna much ahead of its official launch. The Verna facelift packs in major cosmetic changes on the outside and some subtle revisions to the interiors as well. But one of the biggest highlights has been the additions of the new 1.0L turbo-petrol engine under the hood which comes from the Venue. Hyundai has also ensured that the Verna Turbo stands out from the rest of pack and so there are certain key visual differentiators as well. Let’s take a closer look at what sets the Verna Turbo apart from the rest of the range.
Exterior Design Changes
They are some major visual differences on the exterior that distinguish the Hyundai Verna Turbo from the standard car. On the face, the Verna Turbo gets a completely different grille design with an all-black treatment along with a blacked-out lip on the bumper as well. The standard Verna gets a satin silver finish for the lip and a chrome grille. At the rear, the bumper has also been completely redesigned for a much sportier look and there are dual-exhaust tips as well. The standard Verna uses a lot more chrome for the rear bumper.
Interior and Upholstery
On the inside, the standard Verna has a dual-tone black and beige dashboard theme along with beige leather upholstery. The Verna Turbo however gets an all-black dashboard along with matching black leather upholstery. There are also red accents around the AC vents and contrast red stitching on the black seats, the leather wrapped steering wheels and the gear lever. The Verna Turbo is based on the top-spec SX(O) variant and is thus naturally loaded with all the bells and whistles Hyundai has to offer.
Under The Hood
Under the hood, the Verna Turbo has a 1.0L Kappa Turbo GDi petrol engine that produces 118 bhp at 6,000 rpm and develops a peak torque of 172 Nm at 1,500 to 4,000 rpm. This is the same engine that’s offered on the Venue and in the exact same spec of tune. Hyundai offers the option of both manual and automatic gearbox on the Venue. However, in case of the Verna, this engine solely comes mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and it even comes with paddle shifters.

Features and Equipment
As mentioned already, the Hyundai Verna Turbo is only available on the top-spec SX(O) variant and it even comes with certain features that none of the other variants get. That includes rear disc brakes, front parking sensors, dual exhaust system and a rear diffuser as well. Other notable features include full LED headlamps, 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, 7-inch touchscreen HD display, and ventilated seats for driver and front passenger. Some safety features include 6 airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), ECM with Telematic Switches on IRVM, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System.

Price and Competition
The Hyundai Verna Turbo SX(O) is priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. That makes it Rs 15,000 more expensive than the regular SX(O) petrol automatic variant. The latter comes powered by a 113 bhp, 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The Hyundai Verna competes with the likes of the Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Volkswagen Vento and the Toyota Yaris. The Volkswagen Vento is the only other car in this segment to come with a turbo-petrol engine and in essence is the real competitor for the Hyundai Verna Turbo. It will also compete with the Skoda Rapid 1.0L TSI when that’s launched next week.
