Some new spy shots suggest that Range Rover is working on a 7-seater version of the Evoque as the camouflaged test mule seems considerably longer than the standard Evoque. If this is true, it will be a huge hit in India.
Land Rover has for some time been working on the next generation of the Range Rover and spy shots of the same have surfaced online before. The smallest and the most affordable offering in the Range Rover portfolio – the Range Rover Evoque – however got a fresh update very recently. It was also launched in India some time thereafter. Now however, there’s a brand new spy shot of the Evoque doing rounds on the internet. What’s up with the Evoque again? Well, seems like it will soon be gaining a couple of more seats.
The Range Rover Evoque very recently got a generation update where it was built on a brand new platform. The baby Range Rover also saw its styling inspired by its elder cousin, the Velar. It also gained a lot more equipment on the inside from its elder siblings. However, Range Rover was looking to expand the appeal of the Evoque to a wider audience and seven-seats seem just the right way to do it for an already brand new Evoque. With this, the Evoque will be the first SUV in the Range Rover portfolio to come with seven-seats.
The Evoque is already a pretty compact car and to add two more seats in it, Range Rover will of course have to increase the length and wheelbase of the car. As you can already see from the spy pictures, the wheelbase of this car is significantly longer than that of the standard Evoque. Naturally, the length of the car has also gone up. The rear windows and roof section have also been stretched to make space for an additional row of seats.

It’s unclear at this moment if Range Rover will sell the 7-seater version of the Evoque in European and American markets. Interestingly however, the 7-seater model could specifically be developed for countries like China, India and Russia. Buyers in India and more specifically China have shown a preference towards long wheelbase versions of premium cars. We have seen several examples where car manufacturers have already capitalized on this demand and it makes great sense for Range Rover to do the same as well, particularly with an SUV.

Other than the addition of an extra row of seats on the inside and a longer body, the styling of the 7-seater Evoque seems quite identical to the standard car. We expect the powertrain options to be carried over from the five-seater car as well. The new Rnage Rover Evoque has been developed with electrification on mind and so the 7-seater Evoque will also likely feature a mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrain.
