Check out the off-roading challenge between Maruti Gypsy, Ford Endeavour, Renault Duster AWD, Toyota Fortuner, Mitsubishi Pajero and Scorpio!
SUVs are increasingly getting popular in India. Primary reasons include they are affordable, comfortable as a sedan and with some, you can fulfil your off-roading lust. Talking specifically about off-roaders, we have many in India right from Rs 10 Lakhs starting. We might have lost a few due to the BS6 norms, but there’s always the used car market.
Here’s an off-roading challenge including cars like Maruti Gypsy, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Isuzu D-Max, Mahindra Scorpio and Renault Duster AWD. Watch the complete video to see which one among these seems like the most capable off-roading machine.

All the hurdles in this challenge include steep hill climbing. One comes with a turn at the bottom itself but with highly uneven roads. Then there’s one with a turn just towards the end of the climb and the last one is a simple climb. FYI, the list includes Scorpio AWD, Duster AWD, first-gen Endeavour and all versions of the Fortuner.
The first hurdle is cleared by most of the biggies except Renault Duster, Maruti Gypsy and Mahindra Scorpio, which take their own time. In the second one, Gypsy and Scorpio clear the hurdle easily, however, Isuzu D-Max and Pajero complete it on the second take. In these hurdles, its just not about power but also about the technique and skills.
Towards the last hurdle, most of them clear it in the first try itself. To be noted that Gypsy is the only one without any off-roading feature. Pajero, Fortuner, Endeavour and Isuzu D-Max, all get sophisticated 4WD system. What came as a shock was the first gen Endeavour clearing all these challenges without any difficulty.

You can also see most of these cars have step guards and some of them have no bumpers. Some of them get those customized bumpers with high departure angle that helps them is climbing up without scraping the down. Amongst them, we can no longer take the Duster AWD and Maruti Gypsy.
