Maruti Suzuki has released the official sales statement for the month of April, where it has recorded zero sales for the first time ever.
India’s largest carmaker is no doubt, Maruti Suzuki. The company manages to sell more than 1 Lakh cars a month, which no other carmaker can achieve. In the month of March, it received a huge dip in the sales from selling 1.3 Lakh cars in February to just 75,000 units in March. However, for this month, there are no sales recorded.
For the first time in history, Maruti Suzuki has recorded zero sales in a month. Due to the coronavirus outbreak, the production has been completely stopped at its Gujarat and Manesar plant. While Maruti received permission from the government to commence its operations, it will not commence its production.

Maruti decided to comply with the government and closed its operations more than a month ago. To ensure that its employees do not catch the virus, the company has decided to resume production once the cases are declining. However, the port operations have begun in Gujarat recently. So, the company has managed to export 632 units, following all the guidelines.
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, all manufacturers are now shut down. Kia was one of the earliest manufacturers to stop the production back in the third week of March. Followed by that, every manufacturer closed down their plants by the next week. Since the dealerships are also closed, there’s actually no point manufacturing new cars.
Maruti Suzuki was luckily ahead in terms of BS6 norms and had upgraded most of its car last year itself. In February, Maruti launched the Vitara Brezza Petrol which got a BS6 compliant 1.5 Litre engine. The next and last one to receive the update was S-Cross. Now due to the lockdown, the launch also stands delayed.

Maruti and Hyundai are likely to commence operations from May after MG recently opened its factory. However, even after opening, only 20-30% of the workforce will work that too in shifts. After every shift, the place will be completely sanitised for the next batch to start their work.
