Nissan has permanently discontinued 3 cars in India owing to the BS6 norms and one has been temporarily discontinued.
The BS6 emission norms are now into force and we have seen a lot of cars being discontinued. We have lost many important and popular cars to these emission norms. A couple of manufacturers have discontinued their diesel cars completely. That’s the case with Maruti Suzuki, Renault, Nissan, Volkswagen and Skoda.
Talking about Nissan, the manufacturer only has 1 car to sell in India now. Its the Nissan GT-R. It used to sell 5 cars in India but now, 4 of them have been discontinued. One of them includes the Kicks, which is soon about to get BS6 compliant engines. So, the Kicks is discontinued temporarily and will be back this month itself.

The other three models include Nissan Sunny, Micra and Terrano. While the Terrano was discontinued some time ago due to very poor sales. Also, it did not make any sense to upgrade the Terrano to the necessary safety norms and BS6 emission norms. Nissan launched it back in 2013 but the SUV did not gain enough popularity.
Terrano is a rebadged version of the Renault Duster. We all know how much popular the Duster is. Similarly, Sunny was also a rebadged version of Renault Scala. Both the sedans did not perform well in India because of very competitive rivals. We had the Maruti Ciaz, Hyundai Verna and Honda City, which were the obvious choices.
Nissan Micra still was better performing than the other two. Even it was not that popular in the hatchback segment but towards it later years, it entered the cab fleet market. Due to its low pricing and spacious cabin, it was a bit popular with the Ola and Uber fleet operators. Even Micra failed to find desired number of private buyers.

Nissan Kicks will get a new 1.3 Litre turbo-petrol engine that produces nearly 156 PS. With this engine, Kicks will be the most powerful SUV in the segment sharing the stage with Renault Duster. Nissan has discontinued diesel engines, so the Kicks will be an all-petrol SUV only.
