Skoda India Auto has announced that the Karoq SUV, Superb facelift and Rapid 1.0L TSI will all be launched on May 26, 2020. The most important of all the three launches will perhaps be the new Skoda Karoq. The Skoda Karoq is actually a competitor for the Jeep Compass and is essentially a follow-up to the Skoda Yeti that was introduced almost a decade ago. The Karoq will be powered by a sole 1.5L turbo-petrol engine mated to a 7-speed DSG-automatic gearbox. The engine has been tuned to produce 150hp and 250Nm of torque. The Karoq will come to India as CBU (completely built unit) and will be offered only in a single fully loaded trim.

The Skoda Superb facelift will be available in India in two variants - Lauren and Klement and Sportline.

Naturally, the SUV will be brimmed with all the fancy features you could ever want. Some notable mentions include a panoramic sunroof, an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, dual-zone climate control, nine airbags and more. Coming as a CBU under the 2500 import car rule without homologation, the Karoq will sure be an expensive offering. We are expecting an ex-showroom price of Rs 24 lakh.

Next in line will be the Skoda Superb facelift. The Superb facelift boasts of some subtle cosmetic changes like a redesigned front bumper and grille with new LED headlamps and more chrome embellishments at the rear. The interiors also see some minor revisions in terms of design and there much more new equipment on offer like a Virtual Cockpit digital instrument cluster, an updated infotainment system and wireless smartphone charging, etc. The biggest change is however under the hood where the old 1.8L petrol and 2.0L diesel engines have been discontinued. In place comes a new 2.0L turbo-petrol engine that makes 190hp and 320Nm of torque. The engine will come mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. We expect the Skoda Superb to be priced between Rs 28-32 lakh.

The third car to be launched will be new BS6 Rapid 1.0L TSI.

Lastly, Skoda will also be launching the 2020 Rapid 1.0L TSI. The main change for the 2020 Rapid will be its new heart. Out goes the 1.6L, naturally aspirated petrol and 1.5L diesel engines. In comes the new BS6 1.0L turbo-petrol engine that also currently does duty on the BS6 Volkswagen Polo and Vento. The engine has been tuned to produce 110hp and 175Nm of torque and it will come only with a manual gearbox at launch. A 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox will be introduced later. There are no exterior design changes or new interior features on the Rapid. We expect the BS6 Rapid to be priced between Rs 8.7-11.7 lakh.
