There are many cars that have been rumoured for India launch from many years. Till early this year, Suzuki Jimny was one such example which we are finally getting. These are the top 7 cars that are likely or unlikely to launch in India. We still do not have a confirm report on these cars, from the past couple of years.
Top 7 Cars That Are Rumoured For India Launch From A Long Time
1. Jeep Renegade
Since the last three years, we have been facing the rumours of Jeep bringing in the Renegade. The 4.2-metre compact SUV was speculated to come as a rival for Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Kia Seltos. However, we can confirm that as of now, there are no plans of Jeep bringing the Renegade. Instead, it is bringing a bigger three-row SUV and is reportedly working on a compact SUV too.
2. Maruti Diesel Cars
Maruti started discontinuing its diesel cars last year itself. It actually came as a disappointment for many because Maruti diesel cars were very frugal. However, these rumours are indeed true. A couple of months back, top MSIL officials revealed that they are planning diesel engines for bigger cars like Ciaz, XL6, Vitara Brezza and S-Cross. That will happen only if the demand still exists.
3. Tata Sierra
Tata’s iconic SUV was discontinued way long back before it could high popularity. Now that it is gone, Sierra is one of the iconic cars of India. At the Auto Expo 2020, Tata showcased the Sierra in an electric version as well. To rectify all the speculations, Tata has given no possible date of when the SUV will make a comeback and even if it will ever.
4. Hindustan Ambassador
In its final years, Ambassador was just sold to government officials which used it as their official beacon car. There are many renderings and rumours that Ambassador will make a comeback in an electric version. Recently, Citroen bought out the iconic brand and looks like it will revive the Amby. So yes, there are high chances that the iconic name might make a comeback but in a completely different avatar.
5. Ford Ikon
Ford Ikon was discontinued back in 2011 and was gradually replaced by the Fiesta and then Aspire. There are rumours going around that Ford may bring back Ikon as an executive sedan rivalling Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz and Honda City. We can confirm that as of now, Ford has no plans to bring back the Ikon sedan.
6. Toyota Rush
Previous year, we reported that Toyota is planning to bring Rush MPV to India. While there are still rumours of that, our sources suggest that the plan is not in focus right now. Instead Toyota could bring out a rebadged version of Maruti Ertiga in that segment itself. It will save more money because of joint manufacturing costs.
7. Maruti Zen
The last one in this list is the longest rumoured car. Launched back in the 90s, Zen made its India stint till 2010. Soon after the Zen Estilo was discontinued, many reports came in suggesting that Maruti is thinking of bringing the Zen back. Actually, there were reports that S-Presso would actually be named as Zen. To clear the doubts, Maruti has no plans of launching the hatchback again.
