This Maruti Dzire was involved in a high-speed accident recently. While the passengers escaped with injuries, the airbags did not open up in the first place.
From the past 1-2 years, most of the new cars are available with front passenger airbags as standard fitment. Some cars which are priced under 5 Lakhs just come with a driver side airbag. As per the new safety regulations passed in 2019, every car must come with airbags, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors as standard fitment.
Recently, we got an image of this Maruti Dzire involved in a high speed accident. The owner was driving it at a high speed of around 100 km/hr, before he lost control and the car toppled a couple of times. While all the passengers inside the car escaped with minor injuries, there is something amiss about this accident.

The airbags of this Maruti Dzire have not opened up. At this high speed, anyone would expect the airbags to open up instantly but nothing over here. The main reason for that is because the car did not crash or take any big damage to its chassis. Most of the damages are to the roof, doors and side panels. From the front, there’s very little damage.
The airbag sensors are employed at the front of cars, these days. So, if there’s any impact from the front the only do the airbags open up. Mostly, if the accident affects the chassis, the airbags open up instantly. However, this is only possible in cars with front dual airbags. For cars with side and curtain airbags, they have sensors located on the side as well.
Maruti recently upgraded the Dzire with a mild facelift. It got a revised 1.2 Litre petrol engine with mild-hybrid system as standard. Cosmetic upgrades include tweaks to the front grille, lightings and bumpers. More features include auto-folding ORVMs, new SmartPlay studio touchscreen infotainment, cruise control and engine auto-start stop system.
