You Can Finally Travel In Your Private Vehicles Even in the Red Zones

Movement of private vehicles have now been allowed in the third phase of lockdown even for non-essential purposes but with several restrictions. The movements are however restricted to the zones themselves.

India steps into the third phase of lockdown from today, dated May 4, 2020. Now, all districts of the country have been divided into either red, orange or green zones. Depending on which zone you belong from, they are several relaxations or restrictions on public activities. In this third phase of lockdown, these relaxations and restrictions also apply to your movement on your own vehicles or even public transportation like buses which have now been allowed to operate in some places.

The division of these zones have been done geographically and it depends on the number of active coronavirus cases found in these area. The green zones have not recorded any case at all or have not recorded a new case in the last 21 days. The orange zones have a few active coronavirus cases while the red zones are the ones that have been the worst affected. However, there are several relaxations on stepping out of your homes now in this third phase that has been given by the Union Home Ministry depending on which zone you live in. 

The Green zones have been allowed maximum number of activities including the use of public transport such as buses and taxis. For those living in the Orange and Red Zones, people can use their personal vehicles or cabs from today even for non-essential activities. The use of private cars have now been allowed in all three zones but only with a maximum of two additional passengers apart from the driver. Pillion riders on two-wheelers are not allowed in the Red zones but they are allowed in the Orange and Green Zones.

The use of public transport has also seen some relaxation in this third stage. The red zones however do not see any relaxation for the use of public transport and restrictions continue to be as strict as before. In Orange and Green Zones, however, taxis and cab aggregators have been allowed with the same seating conditions as the Red Zones. In Green zones, buses too have been allowed to run with a 50 per cent seating capacity and bus depots can operate with up to 50% capacity.

The movement for non-essential services for individuals in all three zones is however only allowed from 7am to 7pm everyday. You will need a curfew pass in the remaining times. It has also been mentioned that social distancing practices have to adhered strictly at all times at all places. It has also been made clear that those aged above 65 years of age, pregnant women and children below 10 years of age cannot step out at all times. Further more, there’s still a ban on domestic air travel, train services, metro services in cities, and inter-state travel as well.
