Is now the right time to sell your petrol car and buy an EV?

Mahindra has officially revealed the fuel efficiency figures of BS6 XUV300 Diesel which is marginally less fuel-efficient than its BS4 version.

BS6 Mahindra XUV300 diesel was launched just a couple of months ago while the petrol one was launched a lot earlier. Luckily, even with the BS6 upgrade, the prices of XUV300 remained the same for the diesel variants. They start off at Rs 8.69 Lakhs up to Rs 12.69 Lakhs (Ex-showroom).

XUV300 gets a 1.5-litre diesel engine that produces 120 PS and 300 Nm of peak torque. It has the most powerful diesel engine in its subcompact SUV class. The power figures have been unchanged however the mileage has slightly decreased. Instead of 21 kmpl with the BS4 engine, it now produces 20 kmpl.

On the other hand, you have a 1.2 Litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 115 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque, mated to a 6-speed MT as standard. The diesel variants get a manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed AMT. This is one of the very few cars in India that offer a diesel-auto combination.

If you compare it against its rivals, BS6 Mahindra XUV300 offers the least mileage figure. The best mileage figures are of the Hyundai Venue. Here’s a quick comparison between the fuel efficiency of all.

While the difference between XUV300 and EcoSport might not seem large, it certainly is when putting against Nexon and Venue. All get the same capacity diesel engines but with different power figures. Ecosport and Venue produce the same 100 BHP but the latter offers slightly more torque. Nexon comes second in line putting out 110 BHP.

Features onboard BS6 Mahindra XUV300 include front parking sensors, rear parking camera, dual-zone climate control, heated ORVMs, electric sunroof, tyre pressure monitoring system, ESC, projector headlamps, LED DRLs, automatic headlamps, rain-sensing wipers and a touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
