The Fortuner is powered by two engines in India – there’s a 2.8 liter turbo-diesel engine and 2.7 liter petrol engine. The 2.8-litre, four cylinder turbo-diesel engine produces 177hp and 420Nm of torque when it comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. When paired with an automatic gearbox, the engine produces 450Nm of peak torque. The output of the BS6-compliant 2.7-litre, four-cylinder petrol unit is 166hp and 245Nm of torque. The engine also comes mated to either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmission.
The diesel engine continues to be offered with four-wheel drive (4WD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) options, while the petrol will only come with the latter. On the interiors, the dashboard and features list remain identical. It comes with two interior colour schemes – dark brown and Chamois (beige). Features on board includes a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with embedded navigation, paddleshifters (for the automatic only), leather upholstery, powered tailgate, powered front seats, cruise control, 7 airbags, vehicle stability control with brake assist, hill-assist control and ABS with EBD are also be present on the higher-spec variants.

Meanwhile, Toyota is also prepping a facelift for the Fortuner that’s slated for a debut just tomorrow. From spy shots that we have seen as of yet, the Toyota Fortuner facelift packs plenty of visual updates and the face of the SUV now looks very fresh and much more inline with Toyota’s new SUVs like the RAV4 and Raize. The grille is lot slimmer and has gloss black bits instead of the chunky chrome grille we see here in India. The bumper is also much more contoured now with triangle-shaped faux air intakes on each corner.

The headlights have also been revised with new LED elements and inserts. They also look much slimmer than before and make the face look much sharper. At the rear, there are styling tweaks in the form of a mildly restyled bumper and tail-lamp inserts. We expect some improvements on the interiors as well like an updated infotainment system along with newer features as well. We are unsure about the mechanical updates the SUV will receive but reports suggest that the Fortuner will also see a bump in numbers and performance.
