Ford Ecosport 4WD has been spied testing again in India, in an uncamouflaged experience. Does it make sense for Ford to bring it to the country?
Ford Ecosport is one of the most popular SUVs in India right now and was also a trendsetter for compact SUVs. With its tall boy design, powerful engines and the Ford reliability, it is still a good choice among buyers. The numbers might not be that great because of the growing competition but it has created its own fan base.
Once again, the Ford Ecosport 4WD has been spied testing in India. A couple of years back, it was first spotted and the last spying came in 2019 itself. Over the years, there have been rumours of it coming to India but as of now, Ford has no plans to launch it. This is a LHD product and is being tested for export markets.

India is a major export hub for Ford, mainly for South American and South East Asian countries. There have been a lot of instances where Ford cars have been tested but those are for export. The component testing is done here before exporting it or launching it in another country.
While the deal of a Ford Ecosport 4WD sounds lovely but does not make sense for the price-sensitive Indian market. 4WD variant will be the top-of-the-line variant and will demand easily about 15 Lakhs (ex-showroom). Right now, the sale numbers of the SUV are lesser compared to what it was a couple of years earlier.
This spied mule is either for UK or Brazil, where it comes with 4WD as an option. The Brazilian-spec Ecosport gets a 2.0 Litre petrol engine that is good for 169 BHP. It also gets a 1.5 Litre petrol engine that is the same one that we get. Both the engines come with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT.

The compact SUV is priced from Rs 8.04 Lakhs up to Rs 11.43 Lakhs for the petrol variants. The diesel variants start off at Rs 8.54 Lakhs up to Rs 11.58 Lakhs (all prices ex-showroom). Ecosport continues with the same 1.5 Litre petrol and diesel engines, the former getting an automatic gearbox as an option.
