Mahindra will be launching the next-gen XUV500 by early 2021 and although the car has been spied several times on test, here are some new spy shots which offer a great look at the interiors of the new XUV500.

We have already reported to you that Mahindra will be launching the next-gen XUV500 in the first half of 2021. Although the next-gen car has been spotted testing several times, some new spy images have surfaced on the internet which give us a great look inside the cabin of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500. Certainly set to be a lot more premium and feature rich, lets look at the interiors of the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 in a little more detail.

Just Like the exteriors, Mahindra has completely redesigned the interiors of the 2020 XUV500 as well. First up, there’s a new flat bottomed steering wheel, something never seen on a Mahindra before. The center portion of the dashboard is dominated by a large touchscreen infotainment system (probably a 10-inch unit) that comes integrated with the instrument cluster like we see in the Kia Seltos. Further down the dashboard, there are rather simple looking AC vents and a stack of controls for the HVAC and other features below it. The XUV500 will come with a seven-seat cabin and there are talks of a key focus being on more cabin room, especially in the second and third row.

This spied test mule is the automatic variant of the next-gen XUV500 as can be made out from the gear lever. The XUV500 also seems to have got new seats which come wrapped in black upholstery. Also, although the exterior of this spied test mule is still equipped with temporary lights and its still running on 16-inch wheels, Mahindra had given us a sneak peak of the next-gen XUV500’s design by the Funster concept showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The new SUV is expected to have similar body panels with a more squarish design and a more upright nose. The door panels are expected to be flatter and the SUV will have Mahindra’s family grille with slightly smaller headlamps. The SUV will also get Mahindra’s new signature vertically-placed LED DRLs. The next-gen XUV500 will also lose out on its distinctive ‘cheetah claw’ door handles. Instead, it will be featuring flush-fitting door handles like the ones we see in Land Rovers and Teslas.

Under the hood, the next-gen XUV500 will be powered by a brand new BS6-compliant, 180hp, 2.0-litre diesel engine. The current-gen XUV500 produces 155 bhp from a 2.2L diesel engine and that’s then a significant bump in power. Gearbox choices are between a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic, as on the outgoing model. Also, the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 will also be receiving a new petrol heart in the from of a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine. The engine has been developed by Mahindra in-house and it produces a very healthy 190bhp and 380Nm of torque.
