Here’s Your First Look at the Jeep 7-Seater Compass in Flesh!

The Jeep 7-Seater Compass has been spied on test in Brazil and reports claims that it will be powered by a more powerful version of the 2.0L diesel engine. There will also be significant amount of cosmetic changes.

The Jeep upcoming 7-seater Compass is one of the most hotly anticipated SUVs and very important model for India, scheduled for 2021. It has been codenamed the Jeep D-SUV and while it will be based on the Compass monocoque platform, it will be significantly longer in length in order to accommodate the additional row of seats. The wheelbase will also be increased over the standard Compass and that will open up considerable amount of space inside the cabin, particularly in the middle row.

A prototype of the Jeep Compass 7-Seater has now been spied testing in Brazil and although the entire SUV was heavily camouflaged, there are few key details that can be identified. First up are the 18-inch alloy wheels that look a lot similar to the alloy wheels of the Limited Plus variant of the Compass sold in India. The front-section of the SUV is however heavily under wraps and its difficult to tell if there will be any design changes on the face of the 7-Seater Compass to distinguish it from the standard Compass.

Beyond the B-Pillar however, there will be significant sheet metal changes. The 7-seater Compass will come with longer rear doors for easier ingress and egress. The rear overhangs are also much longer than the standard Compass and we expect some distinct design changes towards the rear of the SUV. You can expect the 7-Seater Compass to come generously equipped with features from the Limited Plus variant of the Compass panoramic sunroof, auto headlamps, 18-inch wheels, cruise control, all-wheel disc brakes and ESP.

Under the hood, the Jeep 7-Seater Compass will be powered by the same 2.0L diesel engine that does duty on the standard Compass. In case of the latter, engine produces 173hp and 350Nm of torque and comes mated to a 6-speed manual or 9-speed automatic gearbx. In the 7-seater Compass however, the engine is expected to be in a higher state of tune and a 9-speed torque converter automatic gearbox along with all-wheel drive could be the standard fit. It’s unlikely that Jeep will offer a manual gearbox on a SUV that will be priced upwards of Rs 25 lakh.

The 7-Seater Jeep Compass will be meant to take on the higher end of the spectrum of upcoming 7-seater SUVs like the Tata Gravitas and the MG Hector Plus. It would have also competed with the likes of the Honda CR-V and the Skoda Kodiaq on grounds of being monocoque 7-seater diesel automatic SUVs but both of them have been discontinued. It could thus also compete with body-on-frame SUVs such as the Mahindra Alturas G4, Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour.
