Honda Japan has discontinued the Civic sedan in its home country due to low sales figure. This is the second time that has happened.
Honda Civic has been a huge name in the automotive industry around the world. The name has completed nearly 48 years in the global market and will continue to live long. While the new generation Civics might not be that popular, the older generations still attract many auto enthusiasts with its capability for tuning and performance.
Currently, in its tenth generation, the Civic is very flashy and all modern. From a car that changed the class everytime a new generation was launched, it hardly seems to impress anyone that much. Due to the low sales in its home country, Japan, the Civic has been discontinued. That comes as a shocker because in many countries, it is still a good seller.

While we may get it in a coupe-styled sedan in India, in many foreign countries, it came as a station wagon, a proper couple and even an hatchback. There’s also the Civic R which is the performance version and gets a 2.0 Litre turbo-charged iVTEC engine. There’s turbo charging and the love of i-VTEC, both impossible to resist.
In the last couple of months, the sales numbers of the Honda Civic have remained under 2000 units in Japan. In comparison, other Honda cars in that country are performing extremely well. That shows that not just in India, but even other countries around the world are facing slow growth in the sedan segment.
Also, Japan is a country where cars is termed as an ultimate luxury. Even in India it is the same but gradually, its becoming a necessity. The streets of Japan are crowded all the time and there is extreme shortage of parking spaces. All these factors either force a person to buy a two wheeler or stick with a KEI car or a small car.
