The latest prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi show that the diesel is costlier. This might be once in a blue moon event.
Most of the people buy diesel cars because the daily running costs are cheaper than a petrol car. Despite their prices being marginally higher than a petrol car, people choose to look over this part. However, in Delhi, things will now change for the first time, as the diesel price is more than petrol.
Today, on 24th June, the diesel price is Rs 79.88 per litre. The prices have risen daily for the last 18 days when it was just under Rs 70. In comparison, the petrol price for the said date is Rs 79.76 per litre. There’s a minor difference but still, for the first time ever, the prices of diesel are more than petrol.

The international oil prices are surging and so is the centre levying more taxes. People believe that the diesel prices will soon cross 80 per litre and probably, reach Rs 85. The prices of petrol have remained the same for the last 2 days. So, for a small time, petrol car owners can rejoice and tease diesel car owners.
However, that said, the fuel efficiency of a diesel car is still better than a petrol car. For example, Grand i10 Diesel claims to offer 26 kmpl, whereas its petrol version offers 22 kmpl. The torque and cost-efficient factor are two wins for a diesel car. However, with a petrol car, you have refinement, long-lasting engine and more power.
Always, the buyers of a petrol car are far more than a diesel car. Recently, the sales of diesel cars have started growing and the gap has narrowed down. In the case of Hyundai Creta, 55% of the cars sold were diesel and 45% included petrol and turbo petrol. Slowly, this scenario will also be seen on many other cars.
