Kia Reveals Next-Gen Carnival; India Launch By 2022!

While the current-gen Carnival is still a very new car in India, Kia has already revealed the next-gen Carnival that will come to India by 2022. It’s larger, more SUV-like and much more luxurious than the model it replaces.

The Kia Carnival is still a very fresh car in our market but Kia Motors have already revealed the next-gen 2021 Carnival that will officially see its debut towards the end of this year. The design of the next-gen Carnival is more SUV like than an MPV and we really like the look of what we are seeing. It’s also larger than the current-gen model and will be a little kore luxurious as well. Let’s explore the design in a little more detail.

The design of the next-gen Carnival is more SUV like with flatter surfaces than the current-gen car which looks like a proper MPV. Kia calls their new design language ‘Symphonic architecture’ and this new look brings the Carnival in line with newer Kia models. The lines are clean, the hood is flatter and the nose is also taller. The bumper is much more contoured. The detailing on the face is also a lot different with sleeker headlamps that have a new split design and the LED DRLs have been very cleverly integrated into the grille. As for the grille itself, it has a much more sophisticated design. The detailing on the grille look similar to those of Lexus’ grilles.

In profile, the blacked-out highly raked A-pillar gives the roof a floating effect and a redesigned C-Pillar also gives a whole new look to the glass house. The MPV clearly has a squat stance and the large wheels helps its proportions. There’s also a strong shoulder line that runs the entire length of the car from the headlights to the tail lamps. The rear end of the next-gen Carnival drops sharply and it gets new connected LED-tail lamps. The rear end looks well layered and goes well with the overall muscular look of the Carnival.

Although Kia hasn’t revealed the exact dimensions of the new Carnival, it is expected to be about 40mm longer and its wheelbase is also expected to grow by 30mm. There are also talk about it being 10mm wider. Kia intends to widen the appeal of the Carnival by catering to multiple sub-segments within the MPV market. Lower-spec variants will have a high seating capacity (up to 11 seats) and will be aimed at tour operators.

Meanwhile, the fully-loaded variants will even go one up on the current Limousine variant as a possible alternative to the likes of the Toyota Vellfire. The range-topping model could be a proper luxury MPV with four-seat configuration with a pair of fully adjustable captain chairs for the second row. It will naturally come loaded with all comfort and convenience features you are imagining. Although Kia has revealed interior images of the new Carnival, we have seen spy shots of the interiors before which reveals the dashboard of the new Carnival will be adorned by two digital screens – one for the instrument cluster and one for the infotainment system.

Details of what could be under the hood of the next-gen Carnival is scarce at this moment. It is expected to be powered by an updated version of the current 2.2L diesel engine in some markets. Additionally, it could also get a new 280hp, 2.5-litre turbo-petrol engine from the Kia Sorento along with a new 1.6L petrol hybrid engine. The next-gen Kia Carnival will be officially revealed later this year and it is expected to go on sale by early 2021 in international markets. We will get the new Kia Carnival only in 2022 here in India.
