Maruti Suzuki Launches BS6 Celerio CNG; Price Starts from Rs 5.61 lakh

The CNG variants of the BS6 Maruti Suzuki Celerio are available in the mid-spec VXI and VXI(O) variants with the price being Rs 81,000 more expensive than the equivalent petrol variant.

Maruti Suzuki has launched BS6-compliant CNG variants of the Celerio in India yesterday. Prices for the BS6 Maruti Suzuki Celerio CNG starts from Rs 5.61 lakh and like before, the CNG kit ins offered only on the two mid-spec variants – VXI and VXI (O). There is additionally a Tour variant that has been launched for fleet purposes. The CNG variants are however more expensive than their equivalent petrol variants.

The VXI variant of the BS6 Maruti Suzuki Celerio Petrol is priced at Rs 4.80 lakh while the VIX(O) variant is priced at Rs 4.87 lakh. In comparison, the CNG equivalent models are Rs 81,000 more expensive. The VXI variant of the BS6 Celerio CNG is priced at Rs 5.61 lakh as already mentioned while the VXI(O) variant is priced at Rs 5.68 lakh. There Tour variant for fleet purposes meanwhile has been priced at Rs 5.37 lakh and a petrol counterpart for this variant does not exists.

The base LXI and the top-spec ZXI variants meanwhile have been exclusively reserved as petrol only models. The Celerio CNG continues to be powered by the same 1.0L engine as before, but it has obviously been updated to meet the BS6 norms. With CNG, this motor pumps out 59PS of power and 78Nm of peak torque. The petrol engine in comparison puts out 68PS and 90Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission only.

Fuel efficiency of the BS6 Celerio CNG is rated at 30.47 km/kg. That however is 1.29 km/kg less than the BS4-spec car. In terms of features, the CNG variants of the Celerio gets equipment like manual air conditioner, front and rear power windows as well as central locking system. On the safety front, it comes with a driver’s side airbag, ABS with EBD, and rear parking sensors. The VXI(O) variant additionally also gets a passenger-side airbag.

However, these CNG variants do miss out on a few essential features such as keyless entry, a tachometer, and even an infotainment system. The Celerio CNG competes with the Hyundai Santro CNG in India. We must however point out that the CNG variants of the Santro are about Rs 25,000 – Rs 35,000 more expensive but the 1.1L engine on the Santro also produces more power and torque. The CNG variants of the Celerio sure does widen the appeal of the hatchback if not anything more.
