Car Deal of the Day: stand out with the Omoda 5 EV at £289 a month

The new-generation Honda City continues with its same i-VTEC engine but gets a slight power boost, making it the most powerful sedan in its segment.

Honda recently unveiled the all-new City and its launch is scheduled to happen in a couple of weeks itself. The pre-bookings have already commenced at Honda dealerships, while the unofficial bookings began more than a month ago. Along with a new platform, the City gets many new features and a design upgrade.

It continues with the same 1.5 Litre i-VTEC but with major changes under it. The engine now uses DOHC and gets an improved VVT system. As a result, from the earlier 117 PS, the new City produces 122 PS. The torque generation remains the same at 145 Nm. This engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT.

With revised power figures, the new City becomes the most powerful sedan in its segment. Prior to the City, Verna 1.0 Litre Turbo was the most powerful producing 120 PS and 175 Nm of peak torque. However, the Verna comes paired with a 7-speed DCT which will give quicker acceleration figures than the City.

On the other hand, we have the new BS6 Volkswagen Vento and Skoda Rapid with their 1.0 Litre three-cylinder TSI engine. The turbo petrol motor is good for 115 PS and 175 Nm of peak torque. That makes both of them the torquiest in the segment. While the Vento comes with a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT, the Rapid gets a manual gearbox only.

The other two sedans left in the segment include Maruti Ciaz and Toyota Yaris. Both use a 1.5 Litre petrol engine that is good for 104 PS. So, inconclusive, City is the most powerful petrol sedan among its rivals. That’s just the case for the petrol engine and not the diesel one. City diesel produces 100 PS and 200 Nm of peak torque that is 15 PS and 50 Nm of torque lower than Verna.

The new City will come with features such as lane watch camera, bigger touchscreen infotainment system, internet car technology with Alexa, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, six airbags, rear parking sensors with a camera, traction control, new instrument cluster with G-Meter and semi-digital RPM meter and much more.
