Renault Reveals Fuel-Efficiency Figures for the BS6 Triber!

After its BS6 upgrade earlier this year, Renault has now revealed the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figures of both the petrol and automatic variants of the BS6 Triber. With BS6 update, fuel efficiency has naturally gone down.

Renault launched the Triber in India last year in August with a BS4-compliant petrol engine and it was later upgraded to BS6 spec earlier this year. Renault has now revealed the ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of the BS6 Triber and like most other cars, the Triber too sees a slight drop in its fuel efficiency. At launch, the Triber was only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox but now its also available with a 5-speed AMT and we have the mileage of the automatic variant as well.

Renault has revealed the fuel-efficiency figures for the BS6 Triber.

The BS6 Renault Triber is powered by a 1.0L, naturally aspirated, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 72bhp and 96Nm of peak torque. With the 5-speed manual gearbox, the BS6 Triber gives a mileage of 19 kmpl. That is precisely 1 kmpl less than the BS4-spec car which returned a mileage of 20 kmpl. As for the new 5-speed AMT gearbox variant, the Triber has a fuel efficiency figure of 18.29 kmpl. Both figures are ARAI-certified.

The Renault Triber has only one true competitor in the Indian market and that’s the Datsun Go+. However, the Go+ never really took off in India and the Triber enjoys quite a dominance in this segment and that also shows in the sales numbers. In comparison to the Triber, the Datsun Go+ has a ARAI-certified fuel efficiency figure of 19.02 kmpl for the petrol manual variant and 18.57 kmpl for the petrol CVT variant. The figures are only marginally better than that of the Triber.

The Triber can however also be compared with similarly-priced hatchbacks like the Grand i10 Nios, the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Ford Figo. The Triber is easily left behind as all these cars have larger engines with more power and torque and inspite of that, they also have better mileage figures. Both the Grand i10 Nios and Swift have their ARAI-certified mileage above 20 kmpl for both the manual and automatic variants. Meanwhile, the Ford Figo returns a mileage of 18.5 kmpl for its petrol manual variant, the only powertrain on offer.

The BS6 Renault Triber is priced from Rs 4.99 lakh to Rs 7.22 lakh in India. It is a very unique car in itself with generous seating for seven people under the 4m car segment. And that’s really remarkable. Its also decently well equipped and it looks handsome too. With a respectable fuel efficiency figure, the Triber is a sensational value-for-money product and one that is really driving the Renault brand in India currently.
