Here are some fresh spy shots of the next-gen Mercedes Benz GLC on test in Germany and the longer overhang at the rear with a longer wheelbase suggest that the new model could be a seven-seater model.
Mercedes Benz launched the GLC facelift in India just this year but the carmaker already seems to be working on the next-generation of the SUV internationally. The first spy shot of the next-gen 2022 Mercedes Benz GLC has now surfaced o the internet as it was spotted testing in Germany ahead of its debut. Although this test mule comes wrapped in heavy camouflage, there are some distinct changes that are already noticeable under the wraps.
The face of the next-gen GLC looks quite the part from the current-gen car with a brand new grille and LED headlamps which are larger and feature revised design elements as well. The new SUV also seems to boast of new alloy wheels but the most distinct change lies at the rear. The rear overhang is now much longer with much pronounced haunches over the rear wheel arch. The new GLC will sit on a new platform with a longer wheelbase and reports suggest that the next-gen GLC could even be a seven-seater.
The new GLC will be much larger than the model it replaces and its styling will be much more inline with newer Mercedes cars like the new GLE and the GLS. At the rear, the test mule seems to sport a butch rear bumper and the tail lamps also look sleeker than ever. The next-gen GLC will be based on Merc’s updated MRA architecture. We haven’t seen any spy shots of the interiors of the next-gen GLC yet, but going by Mercedes’ new interior design language as we saw from the updated S-Class, you can expect a portrait oriented touchscreen central console to be the highlight element of the new GLC.

Details of what will be under the hood of the next-gen GLC are still scarce. However, you can expect a range of petrol and diesel engines along with a slew of new plug-in hybrid powertrains to be part of the mix as well. The top-of-the-line AMG GLC 63 variant is also expected to be continued to be powered by a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 engine. However, it’s only a matter of time before AMG either downsizes their engines or brings in electrification.

If the next-gen Mercedes Benz GLC turns out to be a seven-seater, it will have a huge competitive advantage over its rivals which are the BMW X3, the Audi Q5 and the Volvo XC60. The current-gen GLC made its debut in 2016 and prior to that, its predecessor – the GLK – have always been five seater models. The new upcoming GLC will only be the second generation of the SUV. It is expected to make its debut sometime in 2021 as a 2022 model and it could likely reach Indian shores by mid-2022.
