Triumph has launched the new Tiger 900 range in India in three variants – GT, Rally and Rally Pro – with its price starting from Rs 13.5 lakh, going up to Rs 15.5 lakh, ex-showroom.

After a lot of anticipation and waiting, Triumph has finally launched the new Tiger 900 range in India. Triumph has launched the Tiger 900 in three variants in India – GT, Rally and Rally Pro – with the price starting from Rs 13.50 lakh and going up to Rs 15.50 lakh. Bookings for the new Triumph Tiger 900 had already started a few weeks ago and deliveries should commence in a few weeks. Here’s a detailed variant-wise price list of the Tiger 900 in comparison to the older Tiger 800.

The new Triumph Tiger 900 is powered by a Euro-6/BS6-compliant 888cc inline-three-cylinder engine and now, it gets a new firing order of 1-3-2 as opposed to the 1-2-3 as seen on the old 800cc unit. In spite of extra displacement, the motor produces the same 95PS of power as before but now it produces 87Nm of torque which is 8Nm more than what the 800cc engine produced. Moreover, it kicks in at just 7250rpm instead of 8050rpm in the previous version. This should also improve the engine’s credentials when it comes to off-roading.

This is the GT variant of the new Tiger 900.

As you might have already guessed from their names, the GT variant is the road focused Tiger 900 whereas the Rally and Rally Pro are the off-road focused variants. In terms of underpinnings, there are some major differences between the GT and the Rally variants. On the GT bikes, Marzocchi suspension units are employed whereas the Rally versions get Showa suspension units. Other differences are mostly cosmetic where the Rally variants are more rugged and of course, the wheels are also completely different. The Rally Pro variant gets some additional off-road goodies over the Rally variant too.

Braking hardware consists of Brembo Stylema calipers, which debuted on the Ducati Panigale V4. There are major upgrades to the motorcycle in the electronics department as well. It gets an IMU-based ABS system, Ride-by-wire, lean-sensitive traction control. It gets cornering ABS co-developed with Continental. There are six rider modes to choose from: Rain, Road, Sport, Rider, Off-Road and Off-Road Pro; and a bi-directional quick-shifter.

But one of the biggest differences has to how the new Tiger 900 looks. You immediately notice the difference in how much slimmer and compact this new motorcycle is inspite of the extra displacement. The bulbous headlamps have been swapped for sharp looking LED headlights and the enduro-ish stance gives the motorcycle a great appeal. The exposed trellis frame with increased suspension travel and spoked rims on the Rally trims and overall slimmer proportions make it look much more capable than the older Tiger 800. The new Triumph Tiger 900 is a much more capable machine than it has ever been. Its more usable off-road and the new engine is a lot smoother than the older 800cc unit.
