This is the Mahindra ‘Mine Resistant Ambush Protected’ speciality defense vehicle which has been built completely in-house for export to UN peacekeeping forces. Anand Mahindra thinks its the perfect vehicle to drive in Mumbai traffic.
You know Mahindra & Mahindra to be a manufacturer of SUVs that are built like a tank and also some commercial vehicles like trucks and pickup vans. But the company does a lot more than that. From tractors to construction equipment and even an entire range of defense vehicles, Mahindra does it all. Mahindra has defense offerings that cover land systems, naval systems, defense electronics and also security consulting. The newest defense vehicle to come out of Mahindra’s Defense stable is the ‘Mine Resistant Ambush Protected’ Speciality Vehicle.
This beast of a machine has been designed completely in house and will be exported to be used by the UN Peacekeeping forces in their operations at various locations around the world. This machine is obviously built like a tank and apart from many heavy duty features, this special defense vehicles also has got special Interrogation arms to lift road side Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). Surely a handy feature for peacekeepers, ain’t it?
In a twitter post recently, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra group referred to this vehicle as a mean machine. He took to twitter to say, “It (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected Speciality Vehicle) embodies the real spirit of Mahindra Defence which is about keeping peace keepers safe.” He also commented that if this vehicle was street legal, it would be a perfect runabout in the Mumbai traffic.

Mahindra Defence land systems has a dedicated Military vehicles facility near Faridabad in Haryana. The company manufactures military vehicles, select artillery systems and land-based weaponry here in this plant. Not only are these vehicles used by the Indian defense forces but they are exported for use to other countries through the Ministry of Home and External Affairs, Government of India.

Apart from this, the Mahindra Defence Naval Systems has another manufacturing facility in Pune where the manufacture a range of defense related components and sub-systems, weapon systems with associated electronics and related armament systems as well. Earlier, we had also reported to you about Mahindra’s ASLV which is purpose built armored light specialist vehicle built for the military and defense purposes that can offer Ballistic protection up to stage B7 and STANAG Level II.
