BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 Launched – Price and Details

Yamaha has launched the BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 in the country but there’s a huge price premium -over Rs 17,000 – over the BS4 model. There aren’t any upgrades to the motorcycle apart from BS6 compliance either.

Yamaha unveiled the BS6 FZ 25 and the FZS 25 just before the Auto Expo in February 2020 and now, the company has launched both the motorcycles in our market. While the BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 is already up for grabs immediately, the availability of the more premium FZS 25 will be announced at a later date. We expect deliveries of this variant to begin from next month. Here’s a look at the detailed price list of the BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 and the FZS 25.

Yamaha has launched the BS6 FZ 25 and FZS 25 in the country but there’s a huge price premium over the BS4 model.

The price of the BS6 FZ 25 has gone up by Rs 17,420 over the BS4-spec model and that’s a massive premium to pay for what is essentially an unchanged motorcycle. For your extra bucks, you get the same 249cc SOHC 2-valve air-cooled engine with oil cooler that has only been made more environment friendly. Although both the FZ 25 and the FZS 25 use the same motor, the power and torque output is slightly different for both models. In the BS6 FZ 25, the engine produces 20.8PS and 20.1 Nm of peak torque while in the BS6 FZS 25, the engine produces 20.9PS and 20 Nm of peak torque.

Just like the BS4 model, the engine in both the motorcycle continue to come mated to a 5-speed transmission. Yamaha has actually done a good job in keeping the output numbers from the engine relatively unchanged over the BS4-spec model. The BS6 FZ 25 hasn’t gained too much weight either with compliance to the stricter emission norms. It’s just 1 kg heavier, tipping the scales at 153 kg while the FZS 25 weighs 154 kg owing to the some additional parts such as the slightly taller windscreen and hand guards.

The more premium FZS 25 also gets more premium color options and also gold-finished alloy wheels with some of the colors. Other mechanical hardware on the motorcycle remains unchanged. The motorcycles are suspended by telescopic forks at the front while the rear gets a 7-step preload-adjustable monoshock. Braking duties are handled by 282mm front and 220mm rear disc brake with dual-channel ABS. The motorcycles ride on 17-inch alloy wheels  shod with the same 100-section front and 140-section rear tubeless tyres as before.

The BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 however do not justify the high premium over its BS4 model when the only other addition apart from BS6 compliance has been a side-stand engine cut-off function. Yes, the FZS 25 gets a redesigned headlamp cowl and some additional cosmetic bits but apart from that, it largely unchanged. To give you a perspective, by just paying Rs 7,900 more, you can get the more powerful and feature-packed Bajaj Dominar 250. However, the BS6 Yamaha FZ 25 and FZS 25 still undercuts the price of its closest rivals, the BS6 Suzuki Gixxer 250, which is priced at Rs 1,65,441 (all prices, ex-showroom Delhi).
